Is there anyway to convert the front end to duals?

dgyver

Replace them with dual caliper forks.

Lol, that makes sense. Any idea who makes em? I'm having trouble finding them googling.

One more, if I have a set of forks off a gs750, can I just swap out the lower stancions when I do the spring swap? The forks I have in my closet are dual, but the uppers are about four inches longer than on the 500.

I do not know. First thing...are the tubes the same diameter? Not sure what the internals looks like. Probably a PITA to mess with. Being too long is not a problem, just let them stick out the top unless they will hit the handle bars then that is a problem.

Well, I just put the forks next to the bike and I don't like that idea any more. I'm gonna look at the gsx or gsxr front end. Anyone know which is cheaper/better/easier?

dgyver

Katana's are the easiest and cheapest. Usually around $100 and you can use the GS wheel. A GSXR front end will cost $300+. Inverted forks are better but more $$$.

Where do you get it that cheap? The last I saw, someone was trying to sell me a complete front end for 800.

I found a crashed 01 katana that's got good wheels, good swingarm, good forks, good brakes, and good forward controls. The frame is bent and cracked and the plastics are completely gone. The upper tree clamp is broken too. I can HOPEFULLY pick it up for about 2-300. Is this an ok deal?

I find it very hard to believe that the forks are not bent if the upper tree and the frame are broken

Both sets of Kat forks I have I paid less than $50 shipped each. $10-20 for the triples, $10-30 for rotors and $5-20 for calipers. I am not in a hurry to buy to I watch and wait for the good deals on ebay.

Ok, thnx for the info. I'll look around a little more b4 i jump into anything. What about 2-300 for the wrecked bike. From what i saw, the tires were even still good on it. Even if the forks are bent would it still be worth it just to buy the wheels? They are the color i wanted to paint mine, but they are a little bigger. plus the brakes are good too.

I am not too familiar with the 98+ Kats. I know the calipers, rotors and wheels are different than the 89-97 Kats. The rear wheel is wider and may use different bearings. I believe the front axle is the same.

Tough to go wrong with a $300 wrecked bike. The motor could be sold for that.
