Hey everyone!

Found out about your site not long ago.  I plan on buying a gs500f sometime next spring as my first bike.  Really like the looks and read that its a great starter bike.

Anyone have any pics of the new 2006 gs500f, maybe some info about whats new for 06?  thanks again, and great site.  :thumb:

Hi and welcome!

You're always better off buying gently used than new, though.  New, you pay freight, setup, the first big depreciation, and the first service...

thanks for the replies.

yeah I know its gonna cost me but i've been saving up for a while now so it shouldn't be a problem. Plus I plan to keep the bike and never sell it, so I'd want a virgin bike.

Anyone know if the year of the bike has any say towards the price of insurance? Like would the insurance be more for a new 05 or 06 gs500f compared to an 03 or 04?

You say that now... but we all know what happens to the best laid plans ;)

The age of the bike will likely only factor into comprehensive coverage (which you will want if you are buying new, IMO).  From a liability perspective, an 04 does just as much damage slamming into a car as an 06 will.  Insurance companies all have vastly differing formulae for calculating premiums.  Your choice of company will most likely impact premiums more than the year of the bike.  I suggest you SHOP AROUND  :thumb:

Yea Over rated ... and keeping forever and not selling it ... also over rated ... Buy old cheap, and ride few years, and if you liked it so much, hock it and get another one ... Having said that ... there aint any bike for sale GS or otherwise around here, and its likely to get worse, before it gets better.
Cool.

Welcome!

if there was a difference in insurance, the older bikes are much less expensive.

I agree in principle...my problem was finding a "gently used" one.  The only one I saw come available in this area (an '04 after looking for a few weeks) was gone in a matter of hours.  So I changed my perspective:  I get to pay the extra $$$ for the privilege of being the first one to drop it. ;)

I will say, though...there is a very special feeling watching the "1" roll over on the odometer.
