Sorry, but I need to vent a little.  I got a 2004 GS500F a couple of weeks back after not riding for the last few years, so it's kinda my baby.  I use it to commute 110 miles per day to work and love it!

That being said, as i'm talking this morning to one of my Harley owning friends, he grabs my helmet off my bike.  He then puts my helmet on his head and comments about how tight it fits.  While pulling it off he dislodges the breath deflector then points to a scuffed spot on it and says "Oh yeah, I dropped it onto the pavement before you came out when I was looking at it."  :x :guns:  His helmet is a 10 year old POS that he proceeds to tell me he doesn't even strap up if driving under 70 MPH.  He hands over his helmet and asks if I would like to try it on??!?!?  What?!?!?  Why would I want to try it on?  I calmly turn his helmet over in my hands noticing that it has no padding left, is all scratched up, and the foam in the top all dented from sitting on his sissy bar, then hand it back.  I grab my helmet back and get outta there asap!

Am I being a little too protective of my stuff?  I don't think so but it was all pretty irritating anyway!!!

There I feel better now.  Oh yeah this forum is really cool.  :)

Why suck it up?  Just tell him "Please don't touch my helmet."  It's rude.  And not good for your head.

GeeP

What an asshat.  Remember the one hit rule.  Make the bastard buy you a new one of your choice.
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

Yeah, GeeP is right. He damaged your helmet being especially inconsiderate. He needs to repay you.

Messing with someones helmet is not too far below messing with their bike. :x

Your "friend" is an idiot; if he's stupid enough to drop your helmet, you need a new friend. Without question, he owes you a new helmet.

Now, I'd like to ask you a question: Is there a GOOD reason why your helmet wasn't locked to something, or are you always this trustful of the village idiots who tamper with things that don't belong to them? This is a painful lesson for all of us; lock your stuff, or suffer the consequences.

flyingbeagle71

Well, I'm glad to see it's not just me.  I mentioned to him about the one hit rule and he laughed.  He took his helmet, raised it above his head and dropped it onto the pavement.  :o  I don't think you can reason with that kind of logic.  :dunno:

I have started using my helmet lock under the seat now, I didn't think it was necessary before and don't leave the helmet with the bike often anyway.

No chance of him paying for a new one, I'll write it up as a learning experience for me and stay away from him whenever bikes are involved.

No! That's just giving in to his complete lack of logic. Just because he's a moron doesn't mean you should have to suffer repercussions of his stupidity. He damaged your helmet, plain and simple. There is no guesswork about that, for it is fact. Just because he's a brainless (insert four letter word here) shouldn't mean you should just bend over and take it. He owes you a helmet. Hell, you could take him to Judge Judy and make a spectacle of his stupidity on national television.

"If you touch my helmet again, I'm gonna beat you to death with it."

That should take care of the problem. :thumb:

PS Get a new helmet, one drop is all it takes to make it no good. And have him buy it for you cause you don't drop someones helmet and then not buy them a new one.

GeeP

Always keep your lid secured within sight.  The best place is in your hand.  It can be damaged without your knowing.  (Sometimes there is no scuff mark.)  People can spit in it, try it on, steal it, use it as a garbage can, etc.  When I'm away from home, If it's not in my right hand it's on my head.

It certainly isn't just you.  After all, it is what protects your thinker.  It's worth being a little anal.

I can see not wanting to have a friend/co-worker buy you a new helmet.. If he is that stupid it would just cause more problems, cause he obviously wouldnt understand why you want him to buy you one.

I say.. take a sledge, and split his friggin helmet in half! wait about a week or two before you do it so he wont think it was you... And be like.. awe, dude.. who would do something like that  Then atleast he has got to go out and replace his helmet w/ a new $20 flemarket find  :thumb:

It wont fix your lid, but atleast you will fell better  :thumb:

next time he laughs, it will probably be accompanied with a nervous twitch, due to serious head traumor because of one crap helmet, or is that to late :dunno:

next time he gives you his helmet, sh*t in it, you'll be doing him a favor
I never said a thing, it was only a rumour

NiceGuysFinishLast

show him the new scuff mark on his bike when he comes out "I dropped it while I was trying it on, sorry bout that"

walk away.... again.. won't fix the scuff on your helmet, but it'll make you feel better...

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

     All very good suggestions!!!  I cracked up reading them!

Do you guys leave anything on your bike when you're not around?  Is the stuff in my saddlebags safe???  I really don't want to walk into work carrying all of my safety gear with me...But I'm starting to think I shouldn't leave anything with the bike in the parking lot...I was hoping I could leave my boots and riding pants in my bags while working...
