Just ran across this BK, sorry for the delay. Interesting page, but he hasn't checked well published references. Tesla and Westinghouse did this a long time ago, except in 3 phase instead of single phase like this.

Well, he is doing nothing more than what the AC power company does, only worse. The capacitors he use attempt to match the inductance of the generator to the load. Large business that have high inductive loads (motors) often have capacitor banks connected to the incoming power feeds to maximize power transfer thus cutting their costs.

Notice he mentioned that the gadget had to up to speed to work. It is like your GS engine. You have no horsepower at zero RPM.

It seems only to handle about 55 Watts if I read the page correctly. Let's see...that is about one 60 watt lamp from a lawnmower engine. Pretty poor performance if his information is correct.

For all the trouble, you are better off with a Honda, or Coleman, etc. generator.  Inductance motors are not designed to be AC generators. Conversely, AC generators make poor inductance motors. There are exceptions to this and they are usually specialized military items.

A fun page though. Thanks for pointing it out.  :thumb:

i was only asking as my knowledge is limited when dealing with Caps (i know basic theory) or dealing with 120/240 V motors.  I have a dual voltage motor sitting in my shed, and i have an 18hp twin Briggs engine.  but wasnt sure how to go about it without asking someone with solid electrical knowledge, which seems to be you. wish i could afford a real generator as the hurricanes that keep comeing through here in South Florida seem to be making it manditory.
