Anyone have an engine for sale?

Mine runs like new, however i just broke the $5.00 bolt that attaches the rotor to the crank.  This means taking the crank out and sending it to the machine shop... So, i'd like to for go all this and just drop another engine in.  I have an '89.

Why don't you take the motor (and bike if it is still installed) to a machine shop and have them remove the bolt?
Common sense in not very common.

they told me they wouldn't do it unless i brought them just the crank... but i just found one that said they'd do it on the bike.  So that's the first bit of good news i've had.

Can you confirm that the bolt (#4) in this diagram is the one that attaches the rotor to the crank?

Hi there,
There are also tools you can use to try to remove the broken bolt. Sears sells a set of Craftsman "Easy-Outs" where you drill a hole into the broken end of the bolt and insert the easy-out tool. Then you turn the tool and it's sharp edges grip the broken bolt in the hole you have drilled and allow you to remove it. As the previous poster said, a machine shop ought to be able to help you with this if you bring them the entire bike. Often, such a bolt remnant  is a bear to remove, but sometimes they're not so bad to get out. It's certainly worth trying.

Yea sell it to me ... after doing the freaking exhaust header bolts that broke on one bike ... I feel I can do anything ... and boing GS less is like having one arm tied behind my back ...

Yes #4 is the bolt that hold the rotor to the crank.

I was not sure which bolt had snapped off in the crank. It is going to be hard to remove. It will probably need to be heated first. I did not recommend ez-outs since I was afraid it was that bolt.

Most of the common ez-outs sold in retail stores will probably break. I have not found a quality set yet. I have a useless front wheel with a ez-out broken in a stuck rotor bolt to prove it. I had already broke several trying. The square shank ez-outs have been the best I have used so far. The twisted style just snap.
