I can't really put a finger on it, but I can't figure out what the wheels on my 04 500f are made out of. I'm kind of blunt-skulled and am by no means a metallurgist  :dunno:

I want to eventually have them painted white (I'm sure this is gonna get quite a few boo's and rolled eyes, but oh well). I have access to a good quality Binks spray gun and plant to spend the extra dollar or five to get a reputable brand paint (like Delstar PPG or Martin Senour). What type (acrylic, lacquer, and so on) would bond best with the surface of the wheels themselves, and would it be a good idea to clear coat it or take some protective measure to keep the actual paint itself from getting scratched, pitted, or stained by road grime and dirt? The nearest guy in my area with a powdercoating shop is like 3 hours away (I live way out it BFE, or Idaho to those unfamiliar with the term), so that really isn't an option. Any advice?

they are made of aluminum, i dont really have any clue on paint.
my wheels are white...the best of all colors.  well wouldnt it be the absence of color?

go to any automotive parts store like pep boys or autozone, they will sell wheel paint in silver, black, grey/gunmetal, and sometimes white or red.  buy a can of aircraft/airplane/whatever stripper while you're there, use it to remove the paint from your wheels (wipe it on, let it sit for 15 minutes or whatever it recommends, and then wipe the paint off - buy a breathing mask and gloves too, the stuff is nasty) and then paint your wheels as recommended by whatever paint you choose.

What color are they now? painting them white over a dark color may be a pain..

If they are grey, Ill trade you my white ones  :thumb:

Have them powder coated. A friend had it done, looks great and will hold up to anything. cost him around $150.
This is my wifes first bike and I want it to be safe.
