Ok... this is flippin ghey... I just changed my oil (fram filter, new o-ring, castrol syntec 10w-40), and replaced my magneto cover gasket.  After doing so I fired up my bike and there is that darn oil level/pressure light!  I dont get it!  I even had a leak before... now I've gotten rid of the leak and am getting the indicator light!  I put in 3 quarts of oil (on my 92 gs) and the light was on.  I checked the oil and it was low (I spilled a bit previously) and added another 1/2 quart.  The dipstick says that there should be enough oil.  What is going on??? Any ideas???  I dont see how this would effect it but.... I snapped one of the magneto cover (alternator cover) bolts when putting it back on.  I just left the remaining part of the bolt in there until I can get another (then remove it).  Could this possibly have something to do with it (pressure leak???)...???

I usually pull off both plug wires and crank it over for like 2 sseconds, then wait 10 then 2 more seconds, repeat until the light goes off. It can take a few tries.

Did you use any RTV silicone on the gaket?

Bad form.

Edit: Err, what I mean is, no need to bump 15 minutes after you post.  That's kinda silly.  Someone's will answer you.  And no one else is on the board right now anyway.

silicone is optional,  more than likely though you pinched the o ring when installing it and it isn't seated correctly, just take it off and inspect it, and replace if nessacarry.  also make sure that there isn't any oil on the sealing surface as you try to put the cover back on.

Well some other people may know more about the exact details, but if you use silicone you can plug some oil galleries, and I was hoping you would say no, since I don't know what the galleries feed.

But assuming that they feed the same passage that the pressure gage sat in then you would have no pressure even though you do, just not through that passage(still bad though).
