I, ____________ (fill in the blank), being of sound mind and body, do not wish to be kept alive indefinitely by artificial means.

Under no circumstances should my fate be put in the hands of peckerwood politicians who couldn't pass ninth-grade biology if their lives depended on it.

If a reasonable amount of time passes and I fail to sit up and ask for a cold beer, it should be presumed that I won't ever get better. When such a determination is reached, I hereby instruct my spouse, children and attending physicians to pull the plug, reel in the tubes and call it a day.

Under no circumstances shall the members of the Legislature enact a special law to keep me on life-support machinery. It is my wish that these boneheads mind their own damned business, and pay attention instead to the health, education and future of the millions of Americans who aren't in a permanent coma or vegetative state.

Under no circumstances shall any politicians butt into this case. I don't care how many fundamentalist votes they're trying to scrounge for their run  for the presidency in 2008, it is my wish that they play politics with someone else's life and leave me alone to die in peace.
I couldn't care less if a hundred religious zealots send e-mails to legislators in which they pretend to care about me. I don't know these
people, and I certainly haven't authorized them to preach and crusade on my behalf. They should mind their own business, too.

If any of my family goes against my wishes and turns my case into a  political cause, I hereby promise to come back from the grave and make his or her existence a living hell.

I'd also like to note that somebody finally said it correctly: "I COULDN'T care less" not "I could care less" which has a wholly different and idiotic meaning.

the phrase "i could care less" is, i believe, intended ironically.

I've heard it used in contexts where it really seems that the sayer intended to say that he or she couldn't care less.

I could care less about grammar.  A hell of a lot less.

indestructibleman

i'd say it's correct if intended ironically.  and that's probably how the usage of the phrase started (rather than someone mispeaking when they meant to say "i couldn't care less").

however, a lot of people probably use it without realizing the irony.

I know this thread is something of a joke but I would encourage everyone to really write out your wishes and make them known to family members. I just spent several days sitting with a family member dying of cancer. His  nearest of kin don't see eye to eye on how his life should end and it is creating a great deal of problems.

Be as specific as possible. Do you want supplemental oxygen, do you want to be fed by a tube, or have IV fluids. Would you rather spend your final days at home or in a hospital.  Hospice is a great organization to help you deal with end of life decisions.

Ja.  We came close to this situation when my mom had brain cancer; her cognitave functions were going fast.  But she was always a strong-willed woman, and I think that might have had something to do with the way she eventually went; she just stopped breathing one night.
And then my dad made a very, very detailed living will.

Many of you will be aware that I lost my wife earlier in the year. She had always been very specific about this and organ donorship etc, it made it much easier for me and our offspring when asked the "switch-off and donorship" questions
I recomend to everyone and anyone that they made a decision and make it known. Two people gained site and the life of a 15 year old boy was saved or changed a great deal for the better as a result.

In Cricket the testicular guard, or Box, was introduced in 1874. The helmet was introduced in 1974. Is there a message??

that's fantastic cal... i think everyone should be organ donors.  you don't need 'em when your gone!

The thoughtfulness was fantastic Cal.

Also, I believe wholeheartedly that your wife lives on with the recipients.

ok, this is kind of getting confusing...a living will has nothing to do with leaving your possesions to someone else.

speaking of wills, don't ever set up a will. the problem with wills is they all have to be probated. during the probate process, lawyer can delve into about 10% to 20% of the estate. instead set up a living trust.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.
