when the headlamp bulb blows....

does the blue hi beam light on the dash come on?  My GS's headlights dont come on anymore and at the same time that the headlight stopped working, the blue hi beam light on the tach started staying on all the time.  The tail lights, indicators etc are working fine. I would have thought that if the headlight went out, then all you do is replace the bulb, but that hibeam light makes me wonder if there's anything else afoot.

any thoughts, folks? maybe i should just open up the lamp and see....
