Quote from: Blueknythmm, dont know really, wasnt really thinking of selling them. spose i could, i have 2 GS450 engines for parts that are silver and those cases are the same. the spare 500 cases i have according to prev owner are already machined for larger sleeves to fit so im not really looking to part with those.  i could be willing to strip down one of the silver cases though, this would also free up another crank,Counterballece shaft, tranny gears for sale too.

I don't want the cyclinders.  Just the lower cases.  The split lower engine cases.

Silver?  Hey, beggars can't be choosers.  But the 450 is the same?  If so, shoot me an offer.

yeah, the only things that are diff with 450-500 engines are topend (shims and buckets are the same) the output shaft splines for diff type front sprocket(but the gears are the same and fit on 500 shaft) the shift drum (450 has a reverse pattern from 500 just swap drums) and front sproket cover i think but unsure, the 500 is narrower, ill toss in a 450 cover should that be the case. everything else is the same i belive. if someone else knows diff, speak up

Will all this bolt right in with my GS 500 motor and then bolt right into the frame?

basicly, gut everything out of the 500 and stick it in the 450 cases they are the same. if you need replacement parts, the cyl, pistons, head, cams, shift drum, countershaft (not gears on the shaft),ing rotor and pickups and clutch pushrod and springs are all Differnt and cant be used.

every thing left, including cases, bearings, crank, CBshaft, gears on the tranny shaft can be put on the 500 shafts and be used, clutch cover clutch parts, gaskets (not cyl head)

its where 500 came from, the 450 is like a 73mm bore with same stroke.

on another note, ive got the cranks out and cleaned up abit, polished the bearing surfaces a tad where the lube i sprayed got thin, but fed ex wont even weigh them unless i build a crate for them with proper padding. so im slowed down abit, gonna try and pound out acouple small thin wood crates with spray foam packing.  not sure what else i can do unless FED EX is yanking my chain.   so  GSjames, here is a pic of your crank, sorry the camera sux  http://cooneycomputers.com/~rimfire/pics/crank

the nasty rusty area's on bearings surface isnt rust but the spray lube that gathered dust, i used chain lube so it looks nasty, i cleaned em up and resprayed them with a white chain lube that doesnt sling off or run like the old stuff.  im still trying to get it done for you james, hang in there.

You know what, it seems like quite a hassle (probably for both of us), so don't worry about it.  The machinist is just down the street.  And I think after you factor in the shipping ($50 US) + Canadian Customs ($50 CAD), it will probably end up being about the same price.  And I'm kind of in a rush to get riding again.  And I think the job they do will be fine.

Sorry for any efforts I put you through.

ok, no problem. i can understand needing it done so dont blame you there.  someone else was looking for a crank too i belive, now is the time to pipe up as im building one crate to do this anyway.
