New biker and just getting 1000 miles under my belt and the 2002 gs500 bit the dust. The rod bearing is shot and so is the crank. I've posted under wtb bottom end or engine but thought it wouldn't hurt to vent here. It felt like the start of a really good relationship. Any help is appreciated ....thanks
p.s. Just on ebay and someone has a crank for sale that looks lot like mine. Say's he can have it ground down and fitted with new bearings. Any idea who does this and is it cost effective.
thanks

I'm going to be no help as far as your questions but that sure stinks.  Hope you're rolling again soon.

I wouldn't use a ground crank, but that's just me.  But a GS450 crank will work as well as a GS500, with the possible exception of needing to also use the 450 magnet rotor.

All motor parts are compatible.

Only differences are:
Top end: newer ones used electronic tach hence no place for a tack cable.

Otherwise, motors and their parts are all pretty much interchangeable.

You'll need the timing pickup and timing rotor from your present motor.
Stator on older bike may have 3 barrel connectors rather than a 3 pin connector.  Just make any type of connection. Wire order doesn't matter.
