Anyone ever hear of a steering damper for a GS500F , mine gets a little hairy around a buck 90!

any bike might get a little unstable around a buck 90.

Do a search for more specific information, but no company makes one for the GSF. You can rig one up by mounting it to the forks and the frame, but you need to fabricate stuff.

Like I said, do a search for more specific information.

I was about to laugh at your post until I realized you probably mean in KPH. I know the GS  can't do 190MPH.

ajgs500

190kmp=118.75 mph.  Source my romainian coworker.

Alphamazing

118.06 mph, really... Thanks to Google for that one.

Damn close though.

still even at if it was kmp it would be tough to get it to that speed without some mods and of course it is going to shake

Alphamazing

Oh yeah. Mine gets to shaking a little bit around an indicated 100mph

I dont know if its because I have TAG metal dirt bike bars on mine but i've topped it out plenty of times and almost never gotten wobbles or unstability... unless I cause it by riding in a groove in the road or streamlining a semi and even then its not even severe enough to warrent any action other than holding on.

Try switching the suspension.  |Changin out the fork springs and possibly add some good emulators.    It might be that the bike is way too undersprung for that speed.

Also make sure that you arent gripping the handle bars too tight.  chances are you are moving the bars when you go over bumps and it isnt the bikes fault.

Yeah that took me a second. I think the only GS 500 that went 190mph was one that got pushed out of the back of a c-130 at 20,000 feet.

someone dropped a gs out of a c-130?!  :? i was just wonderin tho... what's the terminal velocity for a gs? my brain doesn't wanna do math right now... hopin someone else'll be bored enough to answer that question =P and next time you hear of a gs being dropped out of anything, don't let em! gimme!
Aaaaah, Los Angeles. Where if the traffic don't kill ya, the air will =P

how do i change the suspension, i found the tighter i hold the bars and dig my feet in i can get an extra 10km/h to bring it up to 210 the last bar on my speedo, if anyone has any suggestion, let me know?

So you get more horsepower by holding tighter?

finmac

190kph - didn't realize the GS had it in it...I've heard 170 tops, stock.

chefod

no more horsepower, it stops the wobble and i can pin the throttle, and my bike has a g-unit, k&n filter, dynojet kit, wileyco racing cam, splitfire sparkplugs, and everything else i could do to it, soon to be a 15 tooth front sprocket!

your extremely likely to get into a tank slapper if your holding the bars really tight.  you should really not be puting any weight on them at all.  Your arms should be almost totally relaxed.

To change the for springs you have to remove the top of the fork tube.  youll need a 1/2"  ratchet to loosen them.  to get the springs stiffer you can either get new ones or make a longer spacer to compress it more.  You can use PVC or some metal tubing if you like.  and then you just screw it back down.  you cant adjust the damping very easily unless you buy some emulators.  A simpe fix would be to go to a higher weight fork oil.   Stock is #10 so a #15 or #20 would work.

the back all you can really do is tighten the coil or buy a nother shock.  Ive heard of people getting SV650 and GSXR600 shocks to fit.   I have a GSXR600 on my race bike but it came with it on so I dont know how easily it fit on.
