frame sliders for GS500F

Hi ,

Any idea if I can get frame / plastic sliders for my 05 gs500f.  I have already dropped the bike twice and lucky me,  no damages yet.  I may not be so lucky the third time...

To my knowledge... not only do these not exist, but even if you were to fashion a set of sliders/brackets,  then you would still have to mod your bike by cutting holes in the fairing to accomodate them.  There is also the problem of finding an appropriate spot on the frame on which to mount them.

A quick look at the side profile of a gs500 (Courtesy photo here) leads me to believe that I'm right about having to cut a hole in the fairing.  The appropriate place for a frame slider would be in the
vicinity of the area just above the "U" or "Z".  You'll have to ask someone else about the feasibility of a do-it-yourself mount for a slider that would function properly.

The closest thing the gs500 currently has are case engine guards that mount low by the motor.  These do NOT fit with the fairing on either.  I don't think anyone has attempted cutting or modifying the fairing to accomodate them.

... I was wondering if I can put the slider on top of the bolts used to secure the fairings to the frame  i.e remove the bolt that secures the fairing and put a extra long bolt through the sliders and frame and fasten it.

Any thoughts?

There are a pair (search) that someone makes. However, they bolt onto the fairing support bracket.. so who knows if they'll hold up. But, if your just worried about gentle drops, they ought to do it and if not, you'r cracked fairing will more than offset the cost of the sliders.

This brings up a good question I've been meaning to ask: Why are the plastics on the GS so wide? If you look at them from the seat, there is like a 6-inch "lip" or ledge between the frame and the edge of the plastics. Look at a GSX-R or CBR, and the plastics are pretty much flat against the frame (hence the frame sliders).

Why is this? Is the frame of the GS so narrow that they needed to make the plastics beefier to keep the bike looking good?  :dunno:

the ideal place for a slider would probably be under the upper engine mount-bolt.  remember.. these are FRAME sliders not fairing sliders.

Thanks every body for responding.  I will try to shop for one and let you know how it works if I find any...
