Just took my bike out for a ride since the initial service.  Still keeping it under 8k, but man its like a whole new bike.  alot more torque and power, and alot more fun once the engine is up above 6k rpms.

Whats the avg engine speed you cruise around in  5-6k? more?  is it diff for you depending if your on the highway or city street?

Im finding it nice to cruise at 5500-6000, and shift around 7k.  any thoughts?

good spot.. I ride between 4500-7500rpms and shift between 6000-9000rpm depending on my mood...  a fun ride for me is riding at 6000-7000rpm in sixth and shifting around 8500-9000rpm.

It will get better around 1200-1300 miles.

I am shifting around 9500rpm. It seems to a better spot in the next gear than if I try and float the valves.

And for those who watch dates I went though the entire break in and service procedure in less than a month. 8)

I am picturing me needing tires on a yearly basis. :?

I bought it to commute so by God I commute!

I noticed that, too...but thought I might be imagining things.  I can't quite put my finger on it, but it just seems more...ummm...substantial (for lack of a better term).  Like it goes places with more conviction now.

Heh.  My commute is 120 miles/day.  Once I made it past the initial service and was able to wind it up on the highway, I was past 1200mi in a week.

Now if it would just stop raining...or at least let off this biblical flood water type rain...

    I typicly go through 3 rears and two fronts on a yearly basis!

Shifting higher than 9000-9500rpms is useless though.. after brake-in, the gs's power peaks around 8400rpm... so shifting around 9000-9500 is the perfect place to shift to be right in the power of the next gear.

Maybe I am just being conservative or something but I don't usually shift that high. My travel is around 85% highway and I usually cruise 75-80mph. And in the city I usually shift around 5000-5500 rpms. I do run it up there every now and then when I get to have some sugar on the weekends but other than that, na.
Oh by the way, I went on a 150 mile cruise last Sunday and I had some sugar and got up to 110. It was suprisingly smooth.

No I think you got me wrong. Most of the time I keep out of the cam, pre-6200ish

It tickles me when I see riders cruising at 50mph turining 7500rpm.

Shift d@^m it!
