Quote from: FedExMike24Its a damn TWIN everyone! lots of people have started out on the Suzuki SV-650. Damn. ITs not like its some 650cc inline 4 with super gnarly speed. Look, its even got the crappy handle bars the GS comes with.

Please reserve the comments here. Trust me that the person in question was very much the reason for the disbelief. I mean, she was amazed that I lubed and tightened my own chain. And she took it in to get grips put on. She is a f%$king moron.

And that aside, that is still too much bike for any beginners, especially one who can't do over 20 miles a week. I wouldn't recommend anyone get that to start out on. But you go ahead and tell one of your buddies to get it. I mean, it IS just a V-Twin...

people think a sv650 is a good first bike, pretty universally. so why wouldnt a kawi 650 that's meant as sv650 competition be a first bike either? They will be comparable in many ways supposedly.

I dont think its a good idea obviously but there you have it.

Facts:
>In terms of stepping up, yes it is a stretch.
> She probably has no business thinking she has outgrown her ninja.
>The 650 twin is still a good entry level bike ( its not like a dirt bike with a wicked power band that is constantly rearing its head waiting to bite you)
> Any time, people, that someone has the opportuniy to get rid of a ninja 250 POS and not loose there shirt, they should take advantage of it and dump that thing. ( i personally think that bike is the biggest pos the Japanese have ever inflicted us with) ( ask the guys who have tried racing them   they were constantly replacing engines)

If she just wants a different bike, and doesn't think she has outskilled her current bike, then by all means dont' make yourself look like the killjoy. Just tell her to take it slow, and ask her if she thinks her skill has outgrown her Ninja, and then with her answer, you will have a bettr perspective.

Just because some people dont work on their own bike does not mean they are stupid and don't know how to ride.  Thats like saying " Oh you don't know how to install a hard drive and install Windows XP"  "Wow what a moron bet that person can't even use a PC".

My wife's the type of person that if something needs to be worked on or an aftermarket part installed she'll take it to the mechanic and them do the work.

I just don't see that because someone had the dealership install their grips=they are a bad rider.

Most of the people here are riding a GS ( 487cc ), the lady you are talking about is riding a Kawi 250 a move up to a 650 is not a big leap.  Like it was said the Kawi she was talking about is a twin not an in-line 4.  And I have read on lots of different msg boards that the SV650 is a great beginner bike, so why not the Kawi 650?
Pilot 22.5, Mid 65 , Mains 147.5, Mixture screw 3.5 turns out

Even if the voices aren't real they have some good ideas.

Nobody works here, and nobody knows this lady. I can't bring you all here to meet her, so I cited a few things about her that try and prove my point about her incompetance. Sorry that a few got pissy about it, but this girl is a complete retard and has admitted to taking turns too fast and nearly locking up the rear brake in corners. More than once. I don't know what else to say here.

I was making a point about a certain lady, not about everyone and that particular bike. Trust me: if you knew this chick, you'd be as anti-650 for her as I am. She has almost spilled on the 250; what will she do with a 650?

Kawi 650 is an ugly bike ( at leas to me) I already know that I was talking about if the SV650 is a good beginner bike why not the kawi 650 as far as performance wise.

Some people do just like motorcycles because of the allureof the. The culture, the perceived "coolness", etc. Riding is secondary to some people.
Richard died in a motorcycle accident that was at no fault of his own.  We lost a good friend and good member of this board.  Though Rich may be gone, his legacy will live on here.

But those people don't get 250's.  Ninja 250's are very short on "coolness".

Except (perhaps) to other riders.  I was at the gear shop and the sales guy that was helping me was pretty much drooling over my GS.  "Sharp looking, kinda like a gixxer but waaaaay more practical" was his comment.  Actually, whenever I've been chatting with anyone who actually rides, they always give props to the GS.  Whenever I talk to anyone else, they ask me if I can go 150mph.  :?
