I never said a thing, it was only a rumour

I think he does say some inflammatory and non-sensical things for the sake of entertainment, but this rant is largely about  bikes with noisy exhausts pissing everybody else off. I'm into bikes, but I agree with him on this one.

+2 I think if he lived in SoCal and had to deal with all the folgers enhanced Civics, he'd complain about those.

I can't count when a noisy exhaust has probably saved me from a bump

Too many drivers can't be bothered to look so what else can you do?

Louder the better!

Clarkson is a twat who has always been Anti-Biker, what sort of complete moron would advocate placing cheesewire across a well used road at helmet height on national TV :x  :x  :x

Honestly I'm not a fan of disruptively loud pipes. Especially disruptively loud straight piped V-twin cruisers. They are obnoxious, annoying, unsettling, disturbing, and unpleasing. They sound like crap. I'm with him on this one.

Loud pipes and ANNOYINGLY loud pipes are different. There is a point that a lot of people cross.

Even though the guy is obviously a total idiot, his point is valid. I can't count the number of times I've pulled up behind some asshat on an HD with a/m pipes whose idling, and could no longer hear my GS. Its even been to where I couldn't hear my iPod that I have no trouble hearing at 80MPH on the freeway.

Now, the GS itself is quite a bit loader than the average car. Specially when over 6k. If your having problems with people bumping you more often than people without rediculously loud pipes, its the rider not the vehicle. I get cut off several times a day, as does any other m/c commuter in socal, but for the most part its not that they don't actually see me, its that they just don't care.

What really pisses me off, is the HD riders that have 183db pipes "for safety" then wear t-shirt and jean with a skid lid. If you don't wear gear, you don't care about safety and your pipes are just to make damned sure everyone sees your shiney HD.

Sorry, in a bit of a bad mood right now.

Then you should be paying more attention.  Cars are out to kill you, pipes or no pipes.

RVertigo

Yeah...  I live on highway 99...  I could do without the loud pipes myself...

porsche4786

but then again, he drives cars on his show that are louder than motorcycles....and he does suck at driving, how did he get that job anyway?

im a rider, i am always riding under the assumption they dont see me, OR they are Aiming for me.  as such i try to look out for other riders while in my cage and on one of my rides.  there have been times in my truck or wifes car that i did not truely see where the bike came from and encroched abit , i then wave indicating i didnt see and im sorry.  the bikes with loud pipes are easyer to spot special in blind spots with my gs750 and my GS500, ive never had an issue unless they were blatant assholes. on my 88 katana 600 with stock exhaust, its whisper quiet untill 10k, and i got cut off alot. if my GS sells, im gonna jet and pipe the katana
Accelerate like your being chased, Corner like you mean it, Brake as if you life depends on it.
Ride Hard...or go home.

Its you Vs the pavement.....who wins today?

honestly, who cares what he has to say about bikers.  My opinion is numero uno and the opinion of a guy I will never meet means absolutely nothing.

I've been taught to ride as if I'm invisible. I make sure I've got plenty of room and space for margin of error (both mine and others).

I dislike super loud pipes. I wouldn't mind a slightly louder one though.

I'll sometimes think my exhaust (Cobra F1s) is a little too loud... that is, until I get next to a Harley or some other joker w/ straight pipes. I can't hear my bike at all with one of them next to me... So I think I'm alright...

I'm of the opinion that loud bikes and cars are stupid.  A bike should be just loud enough to hear the pitch of the engine over the noise of the wind (so that you dont' have to check your tach all the time).

People make fun of ricers for their fart pipes, but hill-billies were taking the mufflers off their cars long before fast & furious came out.

In my opinion, its purely a vanity/attention thing.  The only way one could get 'pleasure' from a noise as loud as a bike is if their hearing was already shot (perhaps from listening to loud bike engines).

porsche4786

I'm not really against loud cars or bikes, but I would never put something on my car/bike just to make it loud...My rx-7 is pretty loud but it's because I added a better exhaust system for more power...and it doesn't sound like a crappy honda.

calamari

who are you all trying to fool? the GS is loud after 5800rpm (with stock pipes).
What happens in that we, the riders, can't hear it because of the wind  :nono:

i don't ride at 65mph in 4th gear so people can hear how powerful and loud my bike is, and therefore, how cool and popular I am... that's pretty stupid.
Caturday yet?
