In what year did the body work change?

I have seen only three styles of body work on the GS500.  2 on the E, and then the fully faired F.  When did the first change occur?  Also, was body work the only difference of any significance?  Looking to buy my first one, so want to make sure I know of any major differences.

Thanks!

btw-the 04-06 bodywork is the same as 01-03 bodywork (tank, tail, fender, seat).

This is off the top of my head so correct me if I'm wrong:

The original '89 model had low "clipons". Also had a cast alloy rear shock linkage.

From '90 until '00~'01 the bikes were the same except for paint and sticker changes. I think around '94 they switched to a slightly different (but incompatable) front brake caliper.

In '01 the revised tank, seat, and tail came out. A new ignition control unit and carbs with a throttle position sensor were added for emissions control. Frame, engine, and suspension are otherwise the same.

'04+ In addition to the above, a full fairing with nessissary modifications to the frame.  An oil cooler was added with changes to the engine oil pan. And they changed to using Paoli instead of Kayaba for otherwise similar (if not practically identical) 37mm forks.  Other similar minor changes to parts as they switched to different suppliers for the now Spanish built bikes.

Aaron is still a nood. He doesn't even begin to be a noob, since he does not yet have a bike. A nood must be like some a pre-probationary term, that is, a pre-noob.
Richard died in a motorcycle accident that was at no fault of his own.  We lost a good friend and good member of this board.  Though Rich may be gone, his legacy will live on here.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

God freakin' damn oil cooler. Seriously. If you buy anything like an exhaust, make sure you check it will fit an '04 if you have it... That caused me quite a bit of grief, especially since I'm still stuck with stock exhaust.

They also changed to AJP brake systems from Tokico, too. I think it's an upgrade, from what I heard.

That was some friendly prodding, by the way. Well, that and a little mockery.  ;)
