But genetic selection is not all about direct reproduction.  You see behaviors selected for that do not allow one to pass on one's own genes, but do improve the ability of relatives to.  Everyone reads about Mendel's peas and thinks that they're a geneticist.  But Mendel fudged his numbers - even his peas were not as simple as he made them out to be.

If you look at the way the human body is designed, it is not 'natural' at all for it to walk upright.  It's a four-legged design (hence, our problems with the lower back and instep).

Peeing in a toilet isn't natural.

Cooking food isn't natural.

Cutlery is highly unnatural.

The smell of sweat is natural.  Our dislike for the reek after days is 'unnatural.'

it's interesting seeing people's reactions to homosexuality, which is possibly the most harmless "deviant" behaviour imaginable.

personally, i've never been attracted to a guy.  i've met guys who i thought were damn pretty, but that was more of a case of envying their looks than being attracted to them.

now, i always keep in the back of my head that maybe i've just never met the right guy, but considering the overwhelming attraction i have to females vs. my to-this-date complete lack of interest in guys, i'm figuring the chances are slim.

i've accepted that there's nothing wrong with homosexuals for as long as i can remember, and at some point hanging around ghey friends realized that i was no longer grossed out.

if i see ghey porn, i'm going to look away, but i'm kind of amused by the way most guys make a huge show of jerking their heads in the other direction and saying something like "oh my god, that's the sickest thing i've ever seen, i think i'm going to throw up now."   when they say that i can't help but think, "methinks the lady doth protest too much."

on a similar note, i'm amused by how so many guys feel a need to constantly assert and affirm their maleness.  as for me, i've got irrefutable biological proof that i'm a man, and therefore don't feel i need to go out of my way to "act" like one.

Look at the skeletons of four-legged creatures.  Note the ribcage.  Note the spine - a very thin link between the ribcage and the pelvis, not designed to hold the weight of the upper body.  Now mentally straighten that four-legged skeleton, and you have the human body - a spine that is not designed to hold the upper body, a pelvis that is no longer ideally positioned for its purposes (childbirth being a big one), and our heels hit the ground - hence, arch problems.

We evolved opposable thumbs while we were still as much on all-fours as not (look at our simian relatives), and neotony made our toes vestigial.  Even in a cat or a shrew, the hind and the forelimbs look and function differently - that's nothing special to us.
