Alright... I'm most certain that I've bent my valves... I'm doing a final check tonight!  Does anyone know where I can get cheap valves and springs and how much???  Second... does anyone have a spare head with good valves they'd like to sell or trade for my head and some money???  The dealer said that valves and springs would come to $170ish before taxes.  My bikes a piece and I'm not so sure I want to spend that much on a 700 dollar bike!

Yeah valves cost around $30 each.

There are several cleaning out their engine parts in the For Sale forum.

Watch ebay, I have picked up heads for less than $50.

I have a head with valves installed and both cams but is missing 2 cam bearing caps and the valve shims.  You can probably use your cam caps, I will send you some plastigage to check the clearances before you use them.  You will probably have to get different valve shims as the shims from your bike may not be the same used form this head.  Check your PM.

Will not work. Cam journal caps cannot be switched between heads, unless you get very very lucky. They are line bored with the head. A head without cam caps is basically useless.

that is why they invented brake cylinder hones..... :nana:

then you have just oversized the hole and will have failure even sooner.

I understand they are matched machined, but if the clearances are still in operational range (checked with plastigage) then can they still be used or am I missing something?

You may be lucky. But if the cap is off centered to the head then you risk premature wear. I have never seen a head that I use caps from another.

cross matching caps, say puting a D where B or C belongs your gonna lose big time,  there is alittle more give to useing an A from another head in the place of an A, but its still best to check with plasti gauge  at the head and cap.  the heads are put into a jig and with the caps torqued they are then bored , from that point they are line honed to spec,   Idealy everything is the same, but they arnt.
