Forward: This is not another one of your "I did something stupid and am going to blame it all on the police officer that caught me" post.

This particular road is a 4 lane road (2 lanes per direction) with divided median.  I'm sitting at a redlight waiting to turn left.  There is one car ahead of me in the turning lane, and the first car in the next lane to my right is a police officer.  The turning lane gets a protected green light, all other lanes remain red.

The car ahead of me turns left thru the intersection.  I accelerate, shift to 2nd and start to turn left.  A guy accross the interesection decides he doesn't wanna wait for his green light (Or obviously is not paying enough attention to the lights) and goes for it.  I see him, attempt to turn the bike up straight and stop, but end up applying the brakes too early, skidding the rear tire.  I ease up to gain traction, straighten the bike and stop before crossing his path.  The fellow slams on his brakes, throws his hands up and starts yelling at me, as tho I've done something wrong (I quickly check the lights verifies He's the jackass), and once he's stop'd completly I decide to clear the intersection and go.

I'm glad I was paying attention, saw the car comming, and was able to stop in time to avoid getting hit if he had continued going thru the intersection.  I was a little pissed at this mans stupidity, but thats not what made me the most upset.

What upset me the MOST, was the fact that the police officer one lane to my right who saw the entire thing go down, didn't do a THING.  That man should have gotten a ticket for blatently running a red light, not to mention endangering others safety while doing it.  What gives?  :dunno:  Guess its legal to run lights now-a-days in GA.

I have spent a lot of time in the Atlanta area. I noticed that redlights are more of a suggestion in that area. :?

Glad you pulled your self out of it.

cops only notice when YOU break a law, not someone else...

It prolly wasn't worth the paperwork to bust some guy for being a jackass since no one was hurt.  The only thing cops seem to care about is speeding.

Around here the cops are the worst drivers.  I was following one a few weeks ago.  speeding, no signal, rolling stops were all part of this cops repertiore.  They should be setting a good example.

The cops in Marietta are terrible you should ask BOSS500 he got pulled over in Marietta when  the cop was done writing he ended up with 4 or 5 citations/ tickets  :P .  they only care about making money not helping people.  At least that was the feeling I got living there for 7 years.

it seems like police is being run like a business where i live as well.....some one gets shot ever other day, but do we have more cars on patrol in the city, neah, it would keep them from sitting in all these speed traps which actualy make money instead of using up valuable police resources on stupid crap like solving crimes.......although, the officer could've written a nice size ticket for running a red light, so my guess he just didn't feel like it..........MHO is that if you want to prevent people from speeding, install a camera, if you're hiding in the bushes with the radar, you car more about giving me a ticket today, then whether or not i speed tomorrow
JUST IMHO

i live in australia the cops seam to be slack as i speed like non stop if i can speed i will speed i have never been pulled up for speeding the other day i was at a red light about to turn behind a car the light turned green i ripped around the corner past the car was doin about 120km in a 50 zone and i saw a cop coming the other way i thought dam thats it im gone. the cop drove past me while i was tryin to slow down in a non sus way i would of been doin about 90 when i passed him he didnt even look at me

a few weeks b4 that i came out of a car park (50 zone) redlined 1st redlined 2nd redlined 3rd went around the corner there was a cop sitting there i slowed down abit and the cop just stuck him arm out the window and waved his hand up and down as if to say slow down

1 time tho i did speed past a cop car with the speed cam on it was doing 130 in a 70 zone i just see this huge flash from the cop car and i thought i was done but its 5 months later and i havnt herd any thing about it

i often go on a trip from qld to nsw i go as fast as my bike will go the hole way there is no speed cams in qld and there is about 5 that i pass in nsw but they have signs up b4 them to warn u that they are there

there is lots of other crazy crap to tell but that will do for now

That troubles me more than the non responsive cop.  More and more people are becoming like that in my neck of the woods.

Give a man a fish, and you have fed him for a day.  Teach a man to fish, and he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Cops around here are stretched so thin you have to do something pretty bad to get pulled over. I regularly do 10-15 over, the cops only bother to pull over those who are driving unsafely, from what I've seen. I haven't seen any cop ignore someone doing something that stupid, though.

common sense

There are some good cops out there. My MSF instructor was a former cop, said he didn't give many speeding tickets because he found it hypocritical (he was also a stunter, which is very ironic IMO)
I've gotten my share of tickets in the cage (atleast 1 a year that I've been driving), but cops have a dangerous job so I usually give them the benefit of the doubt unless their going out of their way to be dicks.

This reminds me of the ticket that i almost got for running a red light.  A cop was on the other side of a four lane road (460 in front of VA Tech for those familiar with Blacksburg, VA) and I was sitting there on my bike watching the dump truck comming up behind me.  He was coming up pretty fast and had another car beside him.  About 50 feet behind me he locked up the breaks and i jetted, don't worry i was planning to do it cause I didn't think he had noticed me or the red light for some reason.  The cop, in the turn lane, turned on lights and pulled me over.  Did the why did i pull you over crap.  I got off my bike took off my gloves, handed him my stuff and said not really, expecting that he had seen what just happened.  He came back with the book, and said ok you ran that light and here is the ticket, i was pretty pissed.  I asked the cop what i was supposed to do sit there and become one with the front of that dump truck.  He then goes oh you ran because that truck that skided was coming at you?  "YES OFFICER"  He then goes oh I'm sorry i did see him do that but didn't think you were in the same lane.   I sat there on the side of the road for a while to calm down, he even asked why i was staying and i told him.  Oh well i got to yell at a uniformed office and get away with it  :thumb:

Crim what's up man?  We need to go ride sometime.

Anyways I've had a few dumbasses pull out right in front of me, but thankfully I just knew they were going to, so I was able to brakes/swerve/whatever and avoid the shaZam! - and yes a few of them looked at ME like I was the dumbass!

As far as cops goes, I'm not going to bash them.  If the cop definately saw what happened and did nothing then that particular cop is a dickface, but to generalize and call all cops names, etc. isn't my thing.

I have been in the habit of flying out of town and driving around a "track shaped" new development that is just going in.  The road is perfect........anyway.

On my way out there, I pass a cop at 100 on the mark, he is goin in the opposite direction and and and he never hit the light bar nor did he even tap the brakes.  I was shitting my pants and it has changed me since.  I have a lot to live for and I could lose a lot if I got pulled over doing something really stupid.  We only have 2 units for the whole county, so maybe that played a part.......all I know is that I learned I need to cool it a bit and slow the hell down.  It was a priceless reality check.

Queso

I speed almost everywhere, a good 95% of the time... But no more than anyone else around here. The cops around here only go after the dangerous drivers, not the fast ones, otherwise they'd be pulling over everyone on the road.  :cookoo:
