Framesliders?

Are there framesliders out there for the GSF?

My suzuki dealer (who is about to sell me an '05 GS) said they can't find any framesliders in their catalogs that fit a GS500F.  I want to get some ASAP and put them on my bike before I ride it.

Short answer:

Can you put sliders on the GS: Yes.

Are they effective: No.

there is (was) a frame slider specifically made for gsf...but as you know there's isn't any good mounting point. if i'm not mistaken it was mounted to the fairing bolt. i don't think it would have done any good in a case of crash...maybe okay in case of a drop.

I don't even know if it would have been good for a drop. Those mounting brackets for the fairing were really weak. Any place you would have mounted them would have cracked the plastics after it crushed those mounts. I saw the thread that talked about putting them somewhere near the engine, but the worry was that they didn't stick out far enough. Some guy said he had them on there and he droped his bike and the only thing that was damaged was a scrape on his bar end and a scrape on his engine casing. I was major   because they are supposed to protect your casings.

If you reinforced the fairing mounts with stronger metal it MIGHT work out, but even then it would be a project.

You need to contact the guys at One-Eleven Sportbike   .  I got sliders for my sons bike form them.  Really nice folks to deal with and good price too.  They really held up great when my son slid his bike nearly 600 feet.

They can make what ever size you need.  Just tell them what diameter and length you want.

There aren't any factory-made frame sliders for any gs500.  The two problems with sliders on an F model are:
1. No stock mounting point (as a previous post pointed out)
2. No room anywhere on the fairing for them to stick through.

This makes for a major project, as you can imagine.

Someone told me you can cut a little round hole in the fairing for a slider to stick through.  Do you think that would work?

There are no off-the-shelf frame sliders; cutting a hole does no good if there's nothing to stick through it.  There are, as mentioned, fairing sliders, which don't do much for anything more than a standstill drop.

This would only solve half your problem.  Assuming you got a nice, neat, hole in your fairing that doesn't make it look too bad...

There is the issue of a mounting point.   With the current GS framework... the conventional wisdom is that you can either:
1. Put the slider on the actual unmodified frame of the GS where it won't function very well as a slider due to its position (you will still get scratches damage to the bike in a drop)

2. Put the slider on a fairing brake of the GS - where it won't function due to the loads/stresses (you will probably snap the bracket+slider off in a drop, making it useless)

3. Weld and modify the frame to fit a slider in a useful position capable of enduring the load in a drop.
