whats the deal with these wileyco's? why does everybody like them so much? is it just because there cheap? or do they sound particularly nice on the gs? maybe some combo of the two? and are we talking low bass sorta rumble, or high pitched "sporty" sound?

well BSD the deal:everybody likes them because they sound very nice,  yes the can's are cheap and srinath makes a flange that will simply fit on the GS and the cans bolt directly onto it. (blue05twin told me about the 5 min installation   ) the sound is more of a grunt like you would expect from a v-twin it's a nice sound depending on what you want hope this helps.  :thumb:

Thx BOSS - he covered it ... just to add ... they are extremely well made ... its a bit heavy, probably twice the weight of the feather weight V&H can ... but with good reason ... V&H is paper thin aluminium ... drop it once on that side and there goes the can ... This will probably survive getting hit by a train ... just kidding ... but thick Stainless is what its base material is.

Tonight... I will bring my laptop outside and record some samples of my '89 with the carbon fiber Wileyco.

Then I shall encode them as mp3's and make them available for people to download and use as their ringtones if they wish!

BOSS500:

I saw a blue '04 GS500F at the cycle stop just north of where we work... did your friend finally get a bike?

budget speed demon

that would be awsome, I'm seriously considering buying one of the carbon ones and hearing a sound clip would probably seal the deal. keeping in mind of course that sound clips never sound as good as the real thing.

There are several sound clips of wileyco's floating around. Try doing a search for "wileyco sound clip" and search all terms. Weazelnose has some good ones. And I have short video/sound clip of mine:

Not carbon fiber, though.  :dunno:
Richard died in a motorcycle accident that was at no fault of his own.  We lost a good friend and good member of this board.  Though Rich may be gone, his legacy will live on here.

Alrighty, so I'm fixin to buy a Wileyco can for my 05 GS500F and from what I understand, I will need a flange to mount it to the frame? Will I also need to cut the old exhaust off and weld the new one on? Or is it all bolt on/off?

Yes you need a flange that will slip on to where the headers meet. you need to cut it right after there. no need to weld it, it stays on pretty well on its own.

you can get the flange from srinath if he has some left that is.

I am going to make a new lot of flanges ... Lets just say I will make 3 or 4 bolt ... I dont actually have much preference ... but I'd need a 20 order lot for 1 or the other ...
Rejet is sorta optional ... I drop weld a square plate in the flange that will cut your flow off enough to run stock jetting till you re jet ... at whihc point you can knock that plate off with a hammer ...
There were those yanashiki's that are also available in 3 and 4 bolt ... they are various colors and oval aluminum types ... 3 bolt ones were only sold in pairs - hayabusa and TL 1000 ones ... search ebay ... you can get them and split it amongst 2 of you ... If we decide to do one or the other ... it will be good for me to get my hands on one of the same ones and work that into position ... so just dont all do some random thing ... lets display some collective intelligence and get a good product in the process. I call dibs on the onlt Ti can that's in that lot. I prefer Ti cos its metal and as such while heavier than the CF, tends to stand up to the banging and shoving that accompanies the build process a lot better than CF.
Cool.
