It's a nice start for sure...

But...  Where's the 150 tire FAQ?   :P

And no, Denmark is not the capital of Sweden.

Yeah! To everyone that sent PM's and emails already, thank you! I'll be getting it put up there sometime today. Keep'em coming, too ;)

I must congratulate Phaedrus for the work done.  As a relatively new member, I found the existing FAQ below par. There is so much knowledge in the forum that making it more structurally available can only enhance the GSTWIN.com !!!

Excellent job!  :thumb:  :thumb:  I'll see if I can also contribute. Hope that posting pics is easier... :(

Also thanks to Jetwing, we may have already found a new (GOOD) home for the GS500 FAQ. It's current and temporary home has popups, while the new home won't. The current one is also "old school style FAQ" whereas the new one will have a cleaner, sleeker, more modern appearence.

Wow, how quickly things can progress when people work together

<bump>

I've noticed a couple things missing from the FAQ that used to be there (before the server conked out). So I am adding some things back slowly and also trying to add some new stuff as well.

Anyone else have anything to contribute?

I've still got a few more ideas for it, such as better hosting options, but I want to see how well this goes over before I get all crazy with it.  :P

EDITED to change the URL

great idea Phaedrus. How do you want to integrate it into gstwin so we always have it handy? a sticky link at the top of the gstwin FAQ perhaps? other ideas?

also, the FAQ was started by some of us moderators and was intended as a work in progress that we never were able to get back to so a big thank you to you P for stepping up and addressing this missing peice of the gs500 puzzle. its a huge undertaking. I know-my site started the same way sort of. I had a bunch of stuff saved in Word from my searches. then the old server took a dump and much of it was totally lost so I found that free site to put it up on...yours will be much the same. it is very rewarding to hear when the site has helped people out.

I've still been working slowly at the FAQ here and there, trying to get it tweaked just right and have the most up to date, accurate, and helpful information. It seems to have been a really good complimentary resource for the site, but it still has a way to go.

If anyone gets bored, go through it and check out sections you know a bit about and see if you can add anything to it. Or if you see it is UNDER CONSTRUCTION, maybe see if you can come up with something to add to it?

I might be the "editor" of it, but I see it as a GStwin community project. If you find any mistakes or would like to add to it, email or PM me the info and I'll update it as as I can  :thumb:

Searching the forum and sifting though hundreds if not thousands of posts kind of gets annoying...

We should create a page with all of the different areas of the bike such as "engine","suspension", and whatnot and submit articles to the page.

If someone spends 2 hours and makes a nice instructional post it eventually gets lost and forgotten about. If we would collect these and put them on a static page, then we could update them. So if there's a good useful post that everyone can use.. copy that info to the proper category on a static web page so everyone can simply browse pages and pages of helpful info.

I can do database work, html, css, etc. If there's other IT type folk on here, we could join together and create a semi automated system for this.

Thats a great FAQ, I found it a while ago when I started looking at the GS. I was pretty impressed with the volume of information, hopefully I'll learn to ride soon enough and be able to write some

I realize that its a little late now, but why the flash?

I realize that I'm in the minority here, but I don't like windows and don't use it if I don't have to. Flash is a wonderful idea, but it doesn't always work when you leave a windows environment. The current iteration of flash player is pretty good at making firefox hang under OSX, so I block all flash plugins and enable them only when I have to and I know I'm not going to lose anything that I'm working on in firefox.

Wouldn't a wiki be a better platform for this, though? You can setup wikis so that only authorized users can edit them but that way a group of people can be editing/adding content instead of putting most of the burdon on phaedrus.

Other than that, its a good idea and it looks great! If you are looking for some help, I am willing to help but I don't know how much i will be able to in the near future. Keep us posted on your progress and what we can do to help.

Well, when the FAQ gets a little more filled in, I was hoping to turn it into a downloadable PDF file as well as the updated online version. Then have a GS500 FAQ 2006, GS500 FAQ 2007, and so on.  :thumb:

No one needs to contribute large amounts, I realize it is a lot of work. But just look through the faq, point out mistakes, errors, things to add, etc. etc. Some sections are not complete; send in what you know about them, etc.

Cool.

I just removed one of my tank "suzuki" stickers and installed a new one.  Is this procedure FAQ worthy?  I did take pics.

Pretty much anything that gets asked a lot, performed a lot, searched for a lot, etc., is "FAQ worthy". Not really up to me per se, but I don't see any harm in adding it. Post up or email it to gs500faq@yahoo.com and I'll get it up when I can  :thumb:
