During Hurricane Wilma's aftermath...

I read my 2005 GS manual from cover-to-cover.   In section 9, page 3, where it describes what should be done before storing the bike, I found the following:

"Spray all vinyl and rubber parts with rubber protestant."

My question is this:  I can't seem to find a rubber Protestant, so can I just make do with a plastic Jesus?
On those days when life is a little too much and nothing seems to be going right, I pause for a moment to ponder the wise last words of my grandfather:  "I wonder where the mother bear is?"

It just so happens I have the Owner's Manual to a GS500E (My '04 didn't come with one) right next to me. I looked it up, but it said "protectant". :(

Just don't spray the seat.  You'll be in for a slippery suprise the next time you ride.

What's up with reading the manual anyhow?  The manual is an option of last resort, to be used only when all else fails and you have nowhere else to turn.  Only then can you reduce yourself to the point of actually *reading* the instructions.

Is this an admission to failure???  If so, let's hear the story.

I don't buy your cover story.    :bs:
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

After the hurricane, with no lights, no phone, no work, and not much left to read, the manual looked like something that might be interesting.   But this is the Sunshine State, and riding is generally year-round, so storage isn't even a consideration.   :)

I knew a guy who had a Camaro and used to Armor-All the hell out of the vinyl seats.   Even with seat belts on, you had to hold on to the armrest to stop sliding all over the place when he turned a corner.   We all nicknamed it The Greasemobile.

yeah, no internet here, till i got to work.   i survived wilma too, Fortlauderdale and west Davie got wrecked.  my mobile home held up very well, being a '69 an all, there were a few new ones around that didnt fare well at all.
Accelerate like your being chased, Corner like you mean it, Brake as if you life depends on it.

Oddly enough, both mobile homes we own (as rentals, since they're in 55+ communities, and my parents aren't anywhere near that yet.... 41 and 30     ) survived quite well, even though a tornado went through one community... and the house is fine too, lost like 10x10ft of shingles... but hell, that ain't so bad.... Glad to see everyone's online and posting, so I'm hoping that means all is mostly well with you too

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.
