I used to work in a grocery store through high school. They always played "big hits" music. They had the classic oldies, mixed with your occasionally awesome song. They played Ozzy Ozbourne sometimes, The Strokes, Abba, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, as well as some other good stuff.

You're talking the stereotypical 50s happy music, right?

Musak...  It's really a company.

I'm not going to even ask why you want this, weaz.   Haha. But I assume it is like department store music. My GF used to work at Kmart as a front end supervisor and sometimes it was her job to change the "tapes" for the music. She said they lasted a long time - like hours, but didn't know much about it. I think they were prolly DAT tapes or something.  :dunno:

ya some of the music i recognize as older songs just redone in the kenny G style sax but others are obviously written for the sole purpose of being played in the supermarket.. weird

You know what I really resent!? I REALLY resent it when they call the music that I listened to in high school "classic rock."

It ain't THAT old, dammit!!!  :x

Aren't there published studies that soothing music makes people want to buy more food?  :dunno:

Muzak makes me want to upchuck, which would lead to needing more food eventually, I guess.

You guys are giving me flashbacks to my grocery clerk days :x

Our tapes were timed for the average grocery visit (something like 25 minutes back then), after that they repeated. The Christmas tape was the worst. If you worked  an 8 hour day you would hear "Jingle Bell Rock" about 20 times. Combine that with cleaning up the blood from the turkey deliveries and you have the makings for real psychiatric damage!

Dentist music has to be the worst. Some of the supermarkets here have their own digital sattelite radio stations so they are pumping out the same music and message in all the branches in unison, weird.

In Cricket the testicular guard, or Box, was introduced in 1874. The helmet was introduced in 1974. Is there a message??

I have a running joke with my dentist....that Michael Bolton never fails to come on the Muzak while I am in the chair.   In 6 years (2 visits per year), Michael has only failed one time!    I love all kinds of music, except Celine Dion and Michael Bolton...which tend to be more yelling than singing.     :x
On those days when life is a little too much and nothing seems to be going right, I pause for a moment to ponder the wise last words of my grandfather:  "I wonder where the mother bear is?"

I heard a Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet song at my grocery store the other night.  Exteremely weird. If you have ever watched The Kids in the Hall, the theme song for that show was Shadowy Men.  They used alot of their stuff in the show too.  Just weird to hear it at 9pm on SUnday night in giant eagle.

AAARRRGGHHH!!! I have a lifelong resentment of holiday themed music from years of grocery store employment in high school.  Then theres a radio station in minneapolis that converts to christmas music at thanksgiving, and my girlfriend always puts it on in the car.

Thank god for steering wheel mounted radio controls - no hand swatting necessary, I just change it from over here. They need to invent a lockout of the main unit though. Somebody work on that.

I'm still livin the dream of working in a "grocery store". Alright it's a Sams Club but same deal basically. We've got the satellite thing so there's no tapes to change but some of the songs still seem to play every other day or so. I'll find myself singing along to half the songs tho, so our music selection is pretty sweet, and some of it is downright HIP, yo.

Whenever I go to the grocery all I ever seem to hear is screaming little brats or that loud annoying ghetto twang.

yeah,  Michael Bolton screams and Dion whines.....

One of the most surreal experiences I've ever had:  I was wandering around a large department store that was playing soft muzak.  The tune sounded familiar, but I couldn't quite place it... then my world came crashing in on me: it was the muzak-i-fied/lounge-lizard-i-fied version of Guns and Roses "Welcome to the Jungle"!!!!  I am not making this up...  How low can you go?!?!?
