Last Ride of the year

Well today was the last day my bike was insured (my five month insurance layover starts in November, no more riding till April   ) so my Dad and I went for a beastly ride through the country and accually got to ride through some hills  , which is rare in this part of Ohio (darn glacier :x).

It seems that the longer you ride the GS500, the more fun it is to ride. I just got it in August and I am sad to see it go into winter hibernation so soon. Oh Well, time to remove some stickers and fix the melted front fender.

You are not alone.  I'll be behind you by 3-4 weeks, but due to weather not the cost of insurance.

Riding is indeed addictive.  There's no pill to take that makes the desire go away, but sub-freezing weather and shoveling snow deadens my interest until the first days of spring.

Yeah, yesterday it was sunny with a high of 60 degrees , which is very good for Halloween in Ohio. I've got my helmet and Jacket in storage now where they will remain for a while

Oh well, time to get out the skis and tear up the slopes!

I work in Scotts!! So I ride my GS to Marysville every day (almost)

Yeah, we're closing in on our cold times as well here in St.Louis. Luckily though, mother nature wants me to ride a little bit longer as she blessed me with a full week and a half of sunshine and mid 60s to low 70s. These next 8 days or so are gonna be AWESOME!!

Yeah, my dad works in the auto plant, mabye that is why I like Hondas so much.

Well I know lot of IT programmers who work in Honda... But none of them have a bike.  cueball220 let me know you are around.  Mr 7 may be we should hook up before the next riding season.

It seems that the longer you ride the GS500, the more fun it is to ride. I just got it in August and I am sad to see it go into winter hibernation so soon. Oh Well, time to remove some stickers and fix the melted front fender.  

I bought my first bike in late July 84 and got the Dec-Feb three month layup insurance at dealers recommendation.  Come mid Nov I was likewise hooked and had no intention of laying up for the winter so I changed it to year round ins and have ridden all winter since when roads permit here in NE OH.  Makes little difference for me on the insurance cost.

It really is hard on a bike though, I just put my new Lasertec front tire on the 02 to match the rear and discovered the front brake pads were almost worn out.  Got a wrong pair of front pads locally and couldn't find right ones so I put old pads back on and ordered some new pads online.  Was going to switch with the half worn ones on the 97 but couldn't get the caliper apart.  Badly rusted and corroded parts after just two years use as a winter bike.  

The old 81CM400A I was using before as a winter bike was rusted even worse, the steel front fender had rusted thru and fallen off.  Badly rusted all over with just about everything stuck, but it still ran good as new new with 98k miles on it when I gave it away.  Riding thru the winter on the salt laden streets of NE OH is very hard on a bike.

Good thing I've been out of town for a bit; apparently we got a touch of snow while I was away.  If I had been around, I might have resigned myself to put the GS to bed for the winter.  It looks like there might be at least one more week of good weather remaining though--forecasts show temps approaching the 70's into the weekend! (15-20 above normal for this time of year)  I have a feeling that once it starts to go downhill, it will happen in a hurry, so I'm not counting on things being as pleasant come Thanksgiving.  It was a nice ride in this morning, although I desperately need heavier gloves.  It started to get uncomfortable after about 40 minutes, and another 10 or 15 minutes it would have become really distracting.  I think I'm going to run around and see if I can find a pair this evening.

I need to come up with somewhere to go this weekend to take advantage of the weather.  Maybe I'll take a trip out to the cape.  Hmmmm.
