Another Saturday ride...

Mr. and Mrs. Dionysus and I headed out Saturday and up to the beautiful San Bernardino Mountains.  We took the 18 up to Lake Arrowhead, and managed to not be blown off the road.  We did acquire a bit of frostbite on the 173 attempting, unsuccesfully to circle Lake Arrowhead.

The 18 took us up on through Big Bear, then the 38 over Onxy summit and back down into Redlands.

If you've never been to Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear, well, I like to use this comparison:  Lake Arrowhead is like Beverly Hills in the mountains.  Huge, beautiful mansions, quaint shops, no snowboards, speed limit on the lake, noise ordinances.  Big Bear is more of the common man's mountain town: alpine slides, McDonalds, snowboard shops, trailer parks mixed among the cabins.

Somwhere near Crestline, about halfway up Rim of the World Drive to Lake Arrowhead, the view back down into San Bernardino.


Man, it was cold in the shady turns.

Thats my lovely wife and me in the third pic down, ain't we cute? psst, she's the one wearing her lid... The 78, is that the one that goes through visa or the other one around there, I always get those confused. Which is sad, because I drove passed them no more than 2 hours ago..
