That pic came out blurry.  Actually, they all did.  Shitty pic day fer me.

OHHH. I was wondering wtf those pictures were of. Your exhaust looks a little rough at this point, though. Gonna polish it up? What is that sourced from, too? I like the oval shape.

I also like the picture where it's dangling in the air, hoisted by the grab rail and bars.

I head down on Saturday.  It's raining from Tacoma on down.  Traffic sucks.  No surprise.  My mileage sucks.  Surprise.  Just under 60.

Exhaust on Saturday night.  Plan - quick trip to the farm to weld it, do the first service, do some riding and hiking on Sunday before I head back.

The welder doesn't work.  We go back.  Plan - do the first service on Saturday night, weld the exhaust first thing Sunday morning, get in a quick hike before I leave.

Dave contemplates an engine swap.

'05 sans lowers.

Rejetting for the exhaust.  Mains up one size.  The rounds they give me are bigger in diameter than the mains in the bike, but I put them in anyway.  I hold the hex base with a wrench and take the jet off of the top.

A valve check is part of first service.  My left intake has so little clearance that the cylinder won't hold full compression.  Hmm, maybe that's the bad mileage culprit.  The rest are in spec.  Check plugs, put bike back together.  I did oil and chain before I left.

Sunday morning - we have to wait for the owner of the nice shop with the nice welder to get back from church before we do the exhaust.  Plan - weld the exhaust, I leave not too long after noon to get home at 4ish and do my labwork.
Blurry pic of me ensues as I put the lowers back on.

Yes, the bike is filthy.

Noah is building the ark in the shop.

Dave wants to have a little private time with my exhaust.  I turn my back.

A little welding...

And the gouges are filled in.

A little grinding, and they're smooth.

My bike is hoisted to a position that defies me flatfooting it.

Old vs. new.

I want to polish it, but the finest paper in the place is 80 grit, so it has a very scuffed look still.
The flange... er, During.

Clean that up a bit...

The Plan is now... get back home before it's dark, I hope.
Weld it on.  I want it tight into the bike; Dave is saying some silliness about not wanting it to hit the swingarm.

Dave starts to put the exhaust on the belt sander's polishing wheel side, but for some reason decides not to.  The little bit that is done there is smoother than the rest... but the whole exhaust will have to wait for one of my long rainy boring Seattle evenings to finish polishing.

Horrible picture of the exhaust.

It really isn't any louder than stock.  I'm curious to dyno it.  It ran like crap and blew smoke when we first fired it up, and Dave was convinced it was running rich.  This, by the way, is his answer to any bike ill I have.  Including not being able to reach the ground.  However, I stopped when I hit I-5 to top off the gas and tweak the idle with the bike warm, and it was running perfectly, with no crap from the can.  I think it just had junk to blow out.  The Plan was now to set out before dark, and I just barely made it.  Any plans of labwork or cleaning my poor filthy bike are out.  I dunno if the valve job helped the mileage - I was literally 2 miles off of where I would go to reserve on the previous 2 tanks with the lousy mileage by the time I got home.  But going that far after jetting up is a good sign.  We'll see.

I'll take a better picture when the bike is clean, the headers painted, and the exhaust polished.  That's a TL1000 exhaust, BTW.  It doesn't come through in the pics, but it's much more slender and curvaceous than the stocker, and I like that muchly.  Oh, and you can take the headers off of an F without taking off the fairing, although I took off the two plastic fasteners on the bottom holding the two lowers together and two of the screws on one side to give me a little room to play.

I get blamed for EVERYTHING around here!

It's getting there  :thumb:  But you mentioned it isn't really any louder than stock..so why did you choose to swpa? Appearence? Or did it have something to do with the poor mileage?   :dunno: Slap me if I wasn't paying attention.

Unrelated question,

why do the new carbs have Throttle Position Sensor, is it for the newer style ignition? i have seen it on other carbed bikes but cant figure out what it
CRA #220

I can tell you why an FI bike has it, but don't ask me to explain anything to do with carbs.  Carbs are the devil.

I kinda dig the bike w/out the lowers. They need come out w/ a fairing similar to the SV-S fairing for the GS

I'm quite the opposite. I hated the look of that upper fairing so mouch I just took it off. The fairing as a whole isn't so bad, but still not as good as pure nakedness. Half naked is just blah, IMO.

Looking at that post - 10 pics in which Dave appear; 1 is from the back, 1 from 3/4.  Methinks you're just seeking out the rear shots.

RVertigo

Nah...  You gotta look back farther than that...  Compile all the davipu shots and count the ass-visible vs ass-not-visible ones...

You'll find a trend.

I give up - are you stalking me or stalking him?
