how should i go about polishing my frame i understand it for the most part as far as the sanding and polishing but what do you use to get the black off the frame? and what do you do to keep the frame from oxidation after its polished?

have you ever heard of this

Green Rouge Primarily used in final finish (coloring) buff operations on stainless steel, steel, brass, aluminum, nickel, and chrome. The green rouge is a chrome oxide, and is considered the best all around luster compound

Aren't the frames steel? Won't steel rust? Clearcoat?

GeeP

Clearcoat or laquer.  Plan  to touch it up once a week.
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

is the frame aluminum or steel

TarzanBoy

The easy way to find out is to get a magnet.  Your tank bag should have one.

My guess is steel...

Blueknyt

its stamped, welded sheet steel and steel square tubing.   kinda scarey when i cut one apart,

Probably due to the thin steel and crappy/poor penetrating welds.
Common sense in not very common.

jason1080

yeah its steel not aluminum

lol I was just over at Home Depot and they have spray paint chrome..or you can get the "gold" tint one. It was "pimpy" paint

Maybe go for brushed steel? :dunno:

you know how you can set a glass of water on a folded playing card? its all in the angle the card is bent right?  they use that for the main gussetts behind the engine and stuck square tubing in the holes.  when i first put my GS together, i did a fair amount of reinforcment welding where they missed alot.

1- wheres the pics? I'd love to see pics of this polished frame.
2-that spary on chrome, does not come out chrome. its just a silver. if you could get chrome in a can then everyone would have a show bike.
3-wheres the pics? did i say that already?
4-maybe your solution is to not ride the bike in the rain anymore, no rain, no rust.
5- POST SOME PICS!!!! I've seen polished rims on a gs, they look really good. are gs rims steel? I'm pretty sure I read a thread about someone who polished their rims and then clear coated them as to avoid rust. I'm think'n thats your solution. as to what clear coat to use? I have no idea

The wheels are aluminum.

Aluminum will oxide.

I did that with danny's (Drifter8844) bike too ... swingarm and frame were full of spots they missed ... I believe they missed it by design ... BTW ... filling all that made it less likely to collect water as well ... so the usual rust spots you see ... wont happen as easy ...
Cool.
