My bike comes from the country of Spain! My old GS was made all the way over in Japan. Where does your bike hail from? And why the hell is my GS made in SPAIN?

I think all '01+.  My '04 and '05 are Spanish.
Edit - nope, this one is Japanese.

Maybe just the faired.

My '05 F is from Spain, too.   I noticed it a week after I bought it.  I don't imagine it will be of lesser quality than a Japanese-built bike.   I hope.  Time will tell.
On those days when life is a little too much and nothing seems to be going right, I pause for a moment to ponder the wise last words of my grandfather:  "I wonder where the mother bear is?"

It was made in Mexico? That's odd. I figured all the old GSes were made in Japan... unless I'm totally missing out on some joke here, or something.

The U.S. isn't the only world power to need cheap labor to make things, you know.  :dunno:
Richard died in a motorcycle accident that was at no fault of his own.  We lost a good friend and good member of this board.  Though Rich may be gone, his legacy will live on here.

My '03 is from Japan but lots of "Jap" bikes are built in Europe, notably most Hondas of 500cc and over are built in Italy a lot of smaller Hondas, 125cc and under come from Brasil. The best-ever-selling Honda 90 is made in almost every third world country you can think of, or a very close clone is.

In UK we have Renault and Citroen factories, formerly Crysler, formerly Hillman factories plus "French" cars design and concept facilities. My Nikon cameras are made in Japan but all the accessories and bits and bobs come from China.

It's called globalisation, it's shafting all our jobs but keeps prices down in Walmart.

In Cricket the testicular guard, or Box, was introduced in 1874. The helmet was introduced in 1974. Is there a message??

The manufacturing company in Spain is located in Gijon, Asturias, midway between the Basque country and Galicia, at the northern atlamtic coast of Spain (Europe, just in case... ).
It has been producing motorbike or parts since 1950, previously for MV Agusta and Puch (Austrian offtrack motorbikes), and was purchased by Suzuki in 1988. They have been making Suzuki bikes since 2001.
My GS500 is 2003, purchased in Italy and was made also in Spain....

my two cents...

QuoteIt's called globalisation, it's shafting all our jobs but keeps prices down in Walmart.

first goal... don't shop at WalMart.

Globalization can't really be stuffed back in the bag, but it can be humane.  Buying a $3 sweatshirt means somebody's paying a higher price somewhere else.  In WalMart's case it's slave-wage Chinese laborers and sub-minimum-wage store employees who make up the difference.

Also, they nuke small towns.  Evil company.

Waltons are the modern robber barons.  At least Andrew Carnegie gave to charity...  Waltons are worth over $108 billion, but give away less than 1%.  Bill Gates gives away like 50%.

Oh, and in my experience, Spanish goods are usually very high quality.

I'd check those figures. Gates has given ~$5b to his charity. That was almost all in one year, when he was worth nearlly $100b. So far, as a % of GDP gates is FAR from comparing to Rockefeller. But he's got time. He claims to want to give it all away before he dies, but he did just spend something like $3b on a house....
