For starters - new here so forgive me for asking noob questions... (there will probably be a lot of them  )
I'm about to be the proud owner of a gs, but i need a few pointers as to what to look for when buying a bike. Of course theres the obvious rust, dents, scratches etc.
Is there anything special i need to pay extra attention to?
With the pricing over here im already getting ripped off so it would be nice to not being ripped off more than need be :)

if you know nothing about fixin bikes, buy the nicest one you can afford
look for the obvious
cracked flaky paint around the steering neck might indicate a front ender
good tires are good, anything other than the stock excedras is better
after market exhaust/carb mods are good....and the bike running good with no hesitation or bogging
after market fork springs are good

the after market stuff is a bonus but don't pay more for the bike just because it's there
it is all stuff you might want to do down the road

if you like really fast cars and all your friends have fast bikes and you want to hang out and be kewl with them.....go buy a 600-1000 cc bike
YOU WILL NOT IMPRESS GIRLS OR FRIENDS WITH A GS....SORRY

another thing to look for, bent forks, when looking from the top straight down the fork toward the wheel.   the general condition of the chain, motor oil, sprockets, tires etc say a lot about how an owner rides and treats their bike.

theres a list online somewhere thats VERY detailed in what to look for.

I know ;)

I was looking at the gs before i started takin the license, for 2 reasons basically: Price and Looks. Its pretty much the only bike where i get both. I can get an old 500cc or higher at the price im willing to spend, but then were talking 30+ years old and banged up, and i just dont like how they look. I could also get me one of them new 125cc's, but then again i could just as well get me a moped lol
Then i was lucky enough that the bike im doin the license on is a 96 gs. And i really enjoy riding it. So Win/Win for me it seems

With a little luck ill be gettin both the license AND a gs by the end of next week  :)
