My guages and bars looked similar to that when I crashed. Pics:

You might be able to salvage your headlight out of this, depending on how damaged it is. Mine was bent out of shape and dented in a few places, but not curled in on itself.

You'll want to spend an hour or so shaping up the housing and ring, if they're still useable. First, make sure the housing is still in a circular shape and that the headlight fits it without a lot of gaps. If not, very carefully reshape it back into a circle by pressing at opposite edges to get rid of the oval shape. After you get it back into a circle, and the headlight will fit in it comfortable, you can remove the dings and dents. Take a large bolt and a  hammer and slowly tap out the dents from the inside out. If you've got a large dent, put the housing on a hard flat surface and put the dent over the flat spot. Smack the hell out of it until it flattens out, then you can go to work on shaping it to the curvature of the housing.

Your housing will get scratched up and messy, but you can just sand it down and spray paint it. Mine was a boring silver color, but I painted it matte black after fixing it up. It looks really nice in the black, I think.

If the ring isn't too bad, you can do the same reshaping as you did on the housing. If not, they should be pretty cheap.

As for your guages, they go on eBay for well over $100. Good luck, glad you're okay.

Quote from: Slowe30NEED HELP:WHERE DO I GET PARTS???
I need to get the bike back together in 2 weeks to go home for christmas.  I will need some guages, some bars, the guage surround, and possibly some headlight pieces like the chrime ring.  I might like to use this as an excuse to get some better bars (superbike bars?  I remember a thread on them recently - which ones fit?).
Where can I get the guages?  Are there any motorcycle salvage places I can order from?  I'm really worried about availability (and price) of those things.
Damn. Glad you are OK. Pride bruises easy, but usually results in increase attention.

If you can get to my place, I can help. If you can get the bike to my place, it will be better. I'm on vacation this week and may have enough stuff to square you away. PM me for directions.

The bike does not look too bad.

Did the bike take a hit on the left case cover?
I have seen internal damage on several covers that came from running bikes, a possible prelude to goats.

As for the high beam not working....either blown high beam element in the bulb or a short in the switch. Probably just the bulb.
Common sense in not very common.

Slowe30

yeah, the left sidecover got scratched lightly.  it only slid on soft dirt/leaves with some sticks thrown in, so i'm not worried about it that much.

I thought it was a "sealed beam" type headlight-  I didn't know you can replace the bulb without messing with the reflector/lens.  If that's what the problem is, where can I find bulbs, and can I easily upgrade while I'm at it?

It uses a standard H4 bulb, 60/55 watt. I think 9006 is the same. A lot have commented liking Silverstars. Walmart and auto parts stores carry them.

Srinath got sanded, drilled, and mounted last night.  :o

That sounds strange.  :P  I mean his two weld bars were installed on Slowe30's bike.

About 5.5 hours after he got here, we were done. I took pics along the way last night and just shipped them to him for posting.

The instrument panel, headlight, and bars looked like a HULK SMASH experience.
I don't know how the headlight glass came out in one piece. The bike must have hit the tree flyscreen/panel first. Two out of 4 of welds on the headlight lamp were broken!

I pieced together an instrument cluster from eBay and davipu contributions. (Thanks davipu!  :thumb: See yall, he's not all bad...he just doesn't care.   )

He left outta here last night looking like a Srinath convert.  8)
It was great fun.

Do not throw out that instrument panel....many people here have been wanting the light covers. Is it the blue high beam that seems to disappear?

Already reclaimed those parts D. As a matter of fact, the blue bezel pushed out very easy. The others took a little persuasion but nothing like the panel davipu sent. Those were stubborn. I removed them prior to cleaning up the panel and clear coating it. I used clear RTV to remount them. Slowe30 has a pic of the finished pre-installed set so let's hope he posts it also.

Did you (as in Twinners in general) know that the panel bezels are individually keyed? At least they are on the late model panels. I didn't notice that until yesterday.

Doug (Starwalt) really came through for me - TWO days after my incident, my bike was back on the road better than ever.  I'd like to say THANK YOU to the whole board and Doug for his generosity.  I hope I can return the favor to someone someday.

I have done a lot of work on cars, but no bikes until yesterday.  Doug taught me a lot.  He has the kind of shop dreams are made of - quite a retreat.  I hope to stop by again soon.

Doug had all the parts in his collection to fix me right up:
We put on srinath's 2-weld bars (very nice, sturdy, I like them a lot), which required drilling 2 small holes, and sanding down the powdercoat a little for the throttle.
We replaced the headlight ring, housing, and bulb, and straightened some headlight mounting bracketry.
The tach cable ended up being broken and got fixed.
Clutch adjusting nut was broken.
The full "dashboard" got replaced with one Doug was able to put together.
My sidestand was bent when I got it (I always wondered about that but thought it was supposed to do that) so he provided a replacement

Those bars look good. Need to find a set like that for the Seca. It is either that or I am going to find a piece of straight pipe at the hardware store and use a pipe bender.

Glad to hear you are back up and running.  You can just ride w/o the guages for a bit.... my baby ninja has no guages... either does the Seca. Just stay with traffic. Depending what state you are in, it can be illegal...

Oh man Evan, I hope you mean for a visit or doing a mod and NOT for the same reason! (Look throoouuugh the turn... )

BTW fans, we found out his original bars had indexing holes for the controls whereas the other set of 90 bars I had did not. It was better to go with the 2-weld Srinath set. They are heavier and gave Evan the feel he wanted anyway. The 90 bars had the welded bar end inserts also. His original bar ends were expanding rubber plug type. He's got to adapt those and figure out what to do with his flyscreen as "homework."

My dream for the shop is to reduce the amount of crap in it. I need the floor space to start the Ezuki and Vortex projects.
