are you guys just putting a new layer over the area you want painted, filling it with the new color, and then messing with its opacity, or what?  I've done this a few times trying to "repaint" my bike and while it works for the frame, the paint never looks as good as what you're doing here -- the highlights and reflections get screwed up.

photoshop lets you do it in a bunch of ways... my method is to use selection tools to outline the bike, make a mask layer with the selection, and then use adjustment layers.  Nice thing about adjustment layers is no image destruction, and you can change 'em anytime.  These tools are your best friends:

i do all my work in paint, pixel by pixel.
