Quote from: Jake DThe Ruger 10/22 is not bolt action.  I have one, actually.  It is a semi-auto with a 10 shot rotary clip.
It is ultra nice!

Very true.  I had a sweet one that I sold when I was a broke college student... and now deeply regret it.

ruger 10/22 isnt legal in PA for hunting. not that i want to hunt or anythign but it'd prob be easier to sell it in the future if i choose to do so.. only bolt action or single shot is legal for hunting here.

so at the local sportsman shop i found a new Marlin 925 for $155 marked down from 220.  anyone used this gun?   good 'bang' for my buck? decent gun? is that the right price or can i do better for one?

:dunno:
I do not think I have ever seen a 22 centerfire, all my 22's where rimfire.

Look into 223's also, good varmin round.  I have  Ruger mini-14 that I love.

I also have a mini 14 and find it to be very accurate and fun to shoot.  My brother-in-law recently purchased a .17 bolt action rifle.   he paid about $200 at bass pro.   it is exremely acurate and powerfull for the caliber but the ammo is bit expensive (whoever it does go on sale very cheap).
oops,  you'll need a new one of them

I've got a marlin bolt action .22lr.  Looks exactly like that one but I can't remember the model number exactly. It's at my parents house, with the rest of my dads collection, actually I guess it's mine now.  It's a great gun, smooth action, no binding that I've had happen with other bolt actions(Cheapos). Very accurate, I do very well with it with out a scope.

Also have a slide action tube fed remington(I think) holds about 12 .22lr lots of fun.  And one of the collapsible survival .22 Blueknyt posted, but it's actually pretty inaccurate, and it just feels really cheap and plastic, but I guess that's the point of it.

Rimfire are cheap cheap cheap.  The downside is that they are relatively low power... no deer hunting, etc.  Also, you can't reload rimfire.

Ruger makes the 10/22 in a bolt action, its called the 10/77, but pretty much the same gun... I have one and its super accurate.

really? the 3 differnt ones ive used in my life were all very ,very accurate and reliable. i know when the barrel wasnt screwed on tight the shots would wander abit but once i figured it out and got everything tight the grouping was wonderfull.   thinking of getting one agian, but i want the one with the scope

Well I found I always drive better after a few beers, so therefore shooting should be the same.

BTW the most acurate .22's I've seen/shot are single actions.

I have a martini action .22 rifle that would be at least 60yrs old and it shoots as well as a brand new rifle.

I had a Ruger 10/22 for the longest time....I loved it to death. I had traded it like an idiot for a different weapon. I love the new toy but would like to have a 10/22 again.

i have a ruger 10/22 and i friggin love it.  i can buy a brick (550 rounds) of ammo for $8 and go shoot all day and destroy bullseyes at 50 and 100 yards all day long.  pop in the 25 round magazine and the rabbits wont stand a chance when we go hunting.

alrighty. so i went to the range today.  we shot cans and plastic bottles.  i was 12 for 12 before i missed.  this thing is super accurate!  from 50 yds i shot a paper target DIRECTLY in the center of the bullseye. right on the X! i think im in love..

also i shot a ruger .44 mag revolver. oops forgot the earplugs.  im still ringing.  everyone else that shot it, including the owner, couldnt hit shaZam!.  i shot it once and took down a gatorade bottle.  i should join the marines...
