I've read through about 50 posts regarding shock swaps and I'm getting mixed answers about the Kat 750 shock. I know it fits on the 89 because of alloy linkage, but will it fit on my 2001? The shock I might get is from a 97 Kat 750.

ANy help would be great, BigTwin

I'm pretty sure it's a Kat 600 shock, not a 750.

What ... what have you been reading ... there are such huge tolerances in the parts that the 89 linkage may or may not fit a Short clevise shock ... OTOH ... the later model steel linkage can be ground to take a short clevise shock easy ... so you just take your linkage and gring out where it may hit the shock ... easy ...
Cool.

Jazzzzz

If it doesn't fit, grind the linkage a bit.

I've got a shock from a mid-90s kat 1100 on my bike, it mounted up fine after grinding the linkage down.  It takes 30 minutes and a dremel.

I think the 750's have the remote resevoir? not sure. if it looks exactly like the stock shock it will fit your 2001 without incident....
