Will the GS500 last?

I think another reason people outgrow the GS is the stigma of having a 500cc bike.

It's not the size of the engine, it's how you ride it.

If you seriously think you will "outgrow" a your bike in 2-3 years, get an SV 650.  Like everyone else said, it depends on your type of riding.  I personally, don't have immediate plans to do any track stuff...I just want a thrill.

Considering the gs500 and sv650 as a newbie, I bought the gs500.  My MSF instructor told me to get the sv650, but I got the gs500 anyway trying to be safe and conservative.  

My advice: pick the bike that matches your motorcycle motives (gives you woody) and be careful.
