Spark Plugs.. do i have the right one?

I went to cycle gear and they gave me a set..

i totally forgot about it.. until tonite. I bought them like 2-3 months ago..

Anyway they are NGK : DPR8EA-9

isnt that the "HOT" plug? I thought we need DPR8EA-8 or am I confused.

I want to replace my peice of crap Champion plugs that i installed around this time last year. THe champions did fine, but I prefer the stuff made for the bike.

Nope, you got the right item.  According to the Haynes manual the NGK numbers are:

Code Select Expand


For cold climate (below 5 deg C) .... NGK DPR7EA-9  
Standard ............................ NGK DPR8EA-9
For extended high speed riding ...... NGK DPR9EA-9

I got to find my Clymer manual.. its here somewhere. I was reading it a few weeks back.

Oh well I will switch the plugs this weekend when i do some basic maintennece.

Champions are fine... hell the only defective plugs I have ever seen are NGK's. The only set I used and destroyed are also NGK's. They are all in fact made by the same factory I think. There is a place in Mooresville NC that makes NGK's among others.

hey,
i got the dpr7ea-9 from cycle gear yesterday. i had the dpr8ea-9 before that and now im starting to wonder if the weather here in sf is cold enough for the "cold climate" plugs. its in the 50s during the day and probably in the 40s in the morning when i mostly starting my bike.
what do you think?

Since I am near you, you will not need to go to that range of plug. Tuximoto of BayAreaRidersForum.com will say the same thing.
