GS jetting

Hey, I'm new here, so go easy please.  I bought a used 95 GS.  When I bought it , it had a stock pipe and air box, stock jetting.  One of my co-workers races a couple of GSXR' s, and happened to have the jetting recommended by your site. 40pilots and 125 mains, with 1 shim under the needle.  Before I jetted it, it was a lean pig.  Not even fun to ride.  After jetting, and having the carbs back off a few times to make sure everything was right, the jetting is close, maybe 90 percent.  Midrange is good, top end is good, but off the bottom, a slight hesitation.  Screws are at 4 turns out, seems a little much to me, but I believe another GS site recommended it.  Any recommendations?  Is this common?   Just barely off of idle.  I can ride around it, but maybe another little adjustment needed.  Help.

Robert

Oh, almost forgot, still stock pipe and airbox.

Welcome!

Float height might need to be raised to the level of the floatbowl gasket surface.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

good judgement trumps good skills every time.

Four turns on the pilot screws are definitely excessive when done in conjunction with oversized pilot jets.  Try 2-to-2 1/2, but start here.

If that doesn't do it then shimming under the needle can also cause off-throttle hesitation.  Process of elimination, easy to do, but one change at a time.
