On the contrary.  If you're a highway junkie, a 17-Tooth is the way to go.  Drops the engine speed by 300-400 RPM's and adds 2-3 miles per USgallon in fuel efficiency.  You can't wheelie with it in town, but stretches the power band to make better use of the gears, in my opinion.
