Sidestand works well.  I know guys who race and have it adjusted with them on it.

Just follow the manual as far as slack and you'll be good to go.

Uh...  Opposite...

When you tighten the two nuts on the back it moves the wheel towards the back...  To add slack to the chain you want to loosen those nuts and the axle and push the wheel forward.

If you have someone that can help, put the bike on the Center Stand and have your buddy hold the thing up (TIGHTLY) while you tap (kick) the wheel forward...  If you have no one to help, try putting the front wheel against a wall...  Be careful to watch for tippy-tippy action.

But, before messing with all that, check the chain slack...  Should be .8-1.2 inches of slack (when warm).  Make sure the axle nut really was tight and the cotter (sp?) pin was in place to keep the axle but from moving.

...Oh crap. You're right. I think... Eh, whatever. Either way. Ohhh yeah, tightening them pulls the wheel back, whereas loosening allows you to push it forward. Durrrrrrrrrrrr. Brain fart. Damn I'm stupid.

Get you out of everything.  These titles really help.

Just got home and re-measured and what do ya know the chain was tighter!  By about 3/8th of an inch (on mine).  So, while I would have adjusted the chain tighter at work, when I got home it's on the loose side of being in spec (I'd say 1.2 inches).  So, I'm glad I didn't (adjust it)!
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

fixed problem...didn't tighten axle nut tight enough.   I went to the dealership and they straightened the piece out...no more problems yet

Good to hear!   :thumb:  Your chain coming off while riding can be very bad...  It might get tangled and lock the rear tire.

It can punch a hole in your crankcase.  You were lucky.
Take care, you still have 7 lives to go.
