89' flipped clip-ons

Somebody else here gave me this idea (sorry I'm not sure if it was Dgyver, Werease, or somebody else).  I am pretty sure it's an old GS-E trick - just don't want to give the impression I came up with it....

Having said that - I love it!  The handling is way different.  I still have to take it apart one more time to make everything pretty but I just took a blast around the block and I like it!

I flipped my clip on mounts side for side and top to bottom, then redrilled the bars to accept the tooth on each control.  Fabricated a spacer, got some longer bolts, *modified* the bolts on the brake side and voila!

It feels much sportier - actually reminds me of the two stroke triple I used to race.  Well, except the power hahahahaha.  It's still a GS.

I have enough material to make another set - might try that to see if I get a cleaner install.

Great idea.  Will do that for my brother's '89 instead of buying clip-ons.

Ken was over one night and we were discussing something similar with stock Katana clip-ons. Not sure if I had said anything here or if he did. Either way it looks great.  :thumb:

would that work with a f?  :)

No, doesn't have clipons and even if you put on '89 bars, the fairing would get in the way. Sorry Charlie.

Actually, I'm thinking it just might work. If you can get '89 clip ons and flip them, I don't think the fairing would be the issue. The main issue with the original position on the '89 clip ons was that the horn button hit the tank at full lock left. Since these are lowered it might actually clear the bulbous part of the tank.

When you swap everything you have to drill a new locating hole for the controls.  Since the "bars" are more forward and down, the controls have to rotate forward to a more natural angle.  They're nowhere near the tank of my E at full lock.  I can measure if that would help locate it on an F.

Now that I've got a motor that'll stand up to it, I'm surprised at how addicting the  bottle is  :icon_mrgreen:  I just keep wanting more....  It's like 100 proof whiskey, a hot girl, and everything illegal all crammed into a button.

Yeah, I would love to see if this is possible for a F :)

I have not messed with the other stuff yet. I ran across someone wanting a set of gauges and it was an easy sell. Been getting my bike ready for the track plus I have started seeing a really cool chic.
ZX exhaust....cool!
Wed lunch is fine but remember I work in Travelers Rest, choices are limited. I will email with details.
If the preload is too loose I can have another made.
Sure, I could use a modified nut....wait a minute my nuts have already been modified.

sorry for the off topic chatter
