hey guys, I have been working on my bike since a good while now, painting and cleaning everything up for the summer. anyways, i want to put a Cigarette Lighter on the bike. I looked at the mod and how to page, and it tells ya but i don't understand it... could someone tell me or tell me this. If i Hooked one up, would i beable to put one of those 6" neon tubes on the buttom of the bike, and hook it up to the cigarette lighter?
let me no guys, Thanks Alot

If you want to do the ricey neon lighting stuff, look into LED strips for that type of lighting. They make adhesive strips of them you can stick somewhere and splice into the wiring harness for power. They also draw a near-negligable amount of power and give off no heat, unlike neon.

You can always run wires into a toggle switch and toggle them on and off.

I just looked at that link Alpha, it says they are not suitable for automobile applications. Not sure it might work but you may want to look into it a little more.

hey man, ya i was looking at them, seems to be fairly bright if they are or not.. umm i tryed to use some other kind last summer. with a toggle switch, i don't have much luck with those switches, they either give out on me,  or they won't work or burn up. i dunno why maybe it's my fault
anyways thanks guys, and tell me how to look them up with a switch. Like 2 wires from the battery 1 postive and 1 negative, and run it to the switch, run 2 wires from the switch to the led's. that's how i done it last summer
Thanks

go to your local walmart, and visit the rice accessories asile, they have the LED strips alpha is talking to. They're in the same asile as the other classy accessories, like the type r cell phone holder, type r map light, type s air freshener, etc.

Funny enough, but he's right. There's a guy on the FZ1 board that did it using LED strips like the ones I posted a link to. You might have to search around for ones that are useable for automotive applications.

As for wiring it up to a switch, you might need to do some searching if you want to find out.

A rule of thumb when putting LED or neon strips is:

HIDE THE DAMN STRIP!!!

Nothing says cheap than a neon tube or LED strip showing...  Only the light should give a hint to it's existance on your bike.

yea ok .. for the folks lauhing calling it rice bla bla .. dont let it fool you . good things can be done with leds and the right additude and right work .. first off .. are you wanting to do the . light on the ground ? or light up the motor ? eather one works it can look good i'v been looking to do this same thing in red or purple ( dont let the purple fool you guys purple leds are bright and look good . you cant be so ... male gender on this ) you can go to curcit city they have some pretty birght ones. dose yours have the fairing or no ? best buy has some stand alone ones .. that you just have to drill a small hole or fab you somthing to you can just attach it some how so you dont have to drill a hole . if you use a switch PUT A FUSE ON IT  i know these bikes dont put out the power that a car can . but you will be glad when you did because if you get a surge or it starts to ground out you will be happy that the fuse busted and the wire did nto burn and melt to your bike .. i'v had this happen in my eclipse when i had the neons ont it . and then i busted them .. but i'v had the outher coating get so hot it melted to my carpet and you can see the mark now :( . but it can be done . you just have to do it right and take your time and hook it up right .

Sounds to me like that's why they go out on you. You run one wire from the positive of the battery to the switch, and then another wire from the other terminal of the switch to the positive of the light bar. Then another from the negative of the light bar to the negative of the battery. Or vice versa, so long as you match pos/pos and neg/neg.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.
