Hi,

My dealer just told me that I need new a chain and sprocket.  I have found a second hand one from an '89 GS500.  I'm skint at the moment so this is about all I can afford - it seems to be in good condition

Some questions?

Is this a stupid thing to do?
I don't trust my dealer's skills 100%, how do I know if  sprockets needs replacing?
Would I be able to do this work myself, avrg. brain - no real mechanical skills.

Can you get a closer shot of the front sprocket there?  It looks a little hooked, but I can't quite be sure.

You can tell if your front sprocket needs replaced if it looks like the teeth are hooked on one side or worn unevenly left-to-right.  Just pop the sprocket cover off and take a peek.  It's just held on by five bolts.  You'll also have to remove the gearshift lever.  If the chain needs replacing, I'd go ahead and replace the front sprocket no matter how it looks.

Is that a picture of your current chain and sprockets?
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

By from sumofallparts2 on ebay.  Not only are their prices awesome but their shipping times are ungodly.  I literally ordered the set at like 11pm on night and it was at my house by noon the next day...crazy...
