Smashed gas tank, or racing mod?

At one of the local bike nights, I saw at least 2 bikes with the same "modified" gas tank:  The top area of the tank looked as though something heavy got dropped on it and made the top of the tank concave.   But it was too perfectly shaped to be accidental.   Is this some sort of racing modification?    Does it allow the rider to get "lower" than normal?   Both bikes looked like they had probably seen a lot of track miles.   One was a CBR, and I'm not sure about the other one.
On those days when life is a little too much and nothing seems to be going right, I pause for a moment to ponder the wise last words of my grandfather:  "I wonder where the mother bear is?"

oh you mean the tanks that look like they've had two ass cheeks dumped on them with considerable force?

Is this something where they just smash a stunt tank or are there tanks like this already?

its a stock tank, and they just smash them down so theres a nice flat spot to sit on when doing tank wheelies. I've heard of guys just doing it with their fists. HULK SMASH!!!!

I'm not crazy enough to spend thousands of $$$ on a bike just to smash the tank in... :dunno_white:

Most of them dont.  You can buy smashed up 929RR's for about a grand.

damn stunters...  :flipoff:

I have a feeling my insurance premiums will be going up, rather than down now that sport bike stunting is the new fad.   :2guns:

Most of those bikes aren't street legal and insurance isn't really an issue.  Medical insurance rates going up is a different story, but then again, if anyone knows about the U.S. Medical industry in the last decade, we're f%&ked over and out anyway.

I wouldn't say that you all are any better off.  The US gov't takes a lot out of our paychecks, but it's not as bad as you all have it; over 40% if I'm not mistaken for income tax.  And at least with our system some people are capable of buying into flexible spending accounts that are tax free.

We end up paying like 60% taxes when it really comes down to it. state taxes + federal taxes plus other "fees"
