wow guys, that really sucks

No joke. My dad might take the green ones for his FZ1, but I dunno. I've got no other use for them though... unless... perhaps my car could use a red/blue speedometer lighting?

That's a good Idea Alpha... Odds are that your car has a 194/168 style light bulb behind the speedo/tach... and I bet it would look pretty cool as long as the numbers don't have that ugly green semi transparent paint on them...  ;)

Is it Fs or '01 and up?

Just the Fs. RedShift has an '01 and it worked for him.

Going to take some measurements this weekend to make sure...but I found these at http://www.superbrightleds.com. They are listed at the bottom of this page.

They look like they might fit.

hmm... I may just bust out the old soldering iron... I see no need to ever have to change the bulbs again

FYI...I just ordered these LEDs. The bulbs in the '04 F have the same measurement at the base as these, 4.4mm wide. When they come in I'll let you all know of it goes.

oops forgot to post an update...just got a PM that reminded me about the LEDs.

Sooo for all the "F"s out there. I was able to use the buld at the bottom of this page http://www.superbrightleds.com/mini-wedge.html, the "Instrument Cluster and Gauge Backlights". I bought the ones without the socket base.

They are a perfect fit, but, these are not bi-directional so they will not work for the turn signal indicator. When I put it in for a test, it worked for the right turn signal, but not the left, if I turned it around it worked for the left and not the right. So to solve that, I took one of my green left over 194/168 bulbs and filed the base so it was much more narrow. With a little bit of work it finally fit.

Some pics:
http://www.dansanchez.org/gotblog/v/Bikes/gs500/LEDMod/

So bottom line...if you have already bought the 194/168 LEDs, you can try to file the base of the bulbs...or just order the #73/74's and one 194/168 for the turn signal.

Have fun!

Hey, I got my LED's yesterday. I bought them off eBay. I got a pair of the 5LED type for my gauges, and 4 of the wide angle 4 LED type for my dash lights.

the install was a snap, and it looks awesome!

I built a signal channel with diodes to allow my signal lights to work when I select L or R signal and it works perfectly.

I guess I'm not able to follow here... Can someone tell me which all LEDs I'll need to replace which bulbs? I'd like to swap out all of them (tach, turns, and dash)...

Any ideas how one might go about that? I'm pretty convinced my oil warning bulb is dead. Otherwise there is a loose connection somewhere, but might as well see if anyone knows how much trouble it is to replace a dash bulb first...

So... I was kinda hoping for like "WLEDXX - Tach, LEDxx - Dash..." Cuz I don't see which goes where.

In my last reply (#68), If you click on the links, it will take you to the actual eBay auctions that I bought my LED's from... The seller has many other LED's for sale in his eBay store.... Check it out, it's worth it!

Which bulbs did you use for your speedo and tachometer displays? I'm going to order some LED's and figure I may as well do it all in one shot. Looks good, btw.

Did you even read this thread? I posted several times which bulbs to use. I even provided a link.

I apologize, it was late and I admit I probably didn't read as carefully as I should have.

Alright, so there were complaints that the WLED-x6's didn't fit into the oil/neutral/blinker/high beam slots and the mini wedges were required on the F models. I have a 2006 and replaced the speedo and tacho with the WLED-x5's with the wide angle or whatever, 4 led's pointing outward on the side and one in the center... Worked like a champ. Then I used the x6's in the other dash lights. I sat there with a file trying to file down the sides for about 10-15 minutes before I realized that I had a Dremel........ Within 60 seconds I had all the x6 bulbs filed down to where they would fit into the dash slots. They do need to be filed if you don't use the mini wedge, BUT the x6 standards WILL fit and they look SO much better than the mini's since there's 6 leds instead of 1. The mini wedges look identical to the standard stock bulbs and really aren't worth the money if you buy the mini's. You get such better lighting out of the x6's with just a little bit of filing. I did have to file the edges on the wedge part down to where I was ~almost~ grinding on the wire itself.... But it works! :)
