2000 gs500e - gas tank sensor

I was wondering, when filling up,  does the 2000 gs500e have a sensor to tell you if the gas tank is full (like a car) , or do i have to jus eyeball it?

No, there's no sensor.  Just fill it up with the nozzle down past the fill neck until the gas cuts off.  Then carefully top it off.  If you spill a little bit it's no big deal, it will just drain down by your right foot.

And what sort of sensor do cars have? I think that the gas pump is the one that "senses" the gas and shuts off. As it fills the car with gas, the tank becomes full and gas accumulates in the filler neck. At a certain point, the gas pump "feels" where the gas level is and shuts itself off. No?

Yes, that's right.  The pump nozzle has some kind of shutoff mechanism to turn off the flow when the gas level in the tank reaches the end of the nozzle.  No sensors involved in any gas tank I've ever heard of.

If the nozzle has the foreskin, grab a paper towel that is hopefully available at the gas station and use it to pull back the foreskin.  Put the nozzle against the far side of the filler neck in the tank and slide it down until you feel it 'give', or when the end of the nozzle has just passed the bottom of the filler neck.  Fill until it stops, but watch it as you're filling just in case it doesn't stop.

There's a little flat gizmo sold in the Aerostitch catalog that apparently slides into place to hold the fore... uh, accordian-bellows style vapor recovery seal back and away from the nozzle tip, in the same way it's held back when filling a car. Haven't bought one yet (haven't run across that style yet) but it's on my list.

As for the metaphorical implications... ouch.

Yep, just eyeball it to the bottom of the filler neck.  If you fill up while holding the bike vertical you can get a little more gas in there.  Wasn't the concensus about 40-50 miles?

Anyhow, that can be a problem if you overfill.  Your crotch will get very wet.  The burning sensation goes away eventually.
