#4 washer

I got my repair book last week and Im taking it slow on rebuilding my carbs. ( im a fuel injec. person). Ive found soooo very much helpfull tips and advise on old post in doing this but for the life of me i cant find where to buy a # 4 washer. Is it just a gernic washer thats called #4 or is it something I have to get at a parts store? Thanks

It should just be a generic washer.  0.5mm thick; I don't know about diameter.  I'd go search, but I'm feeling lazy...

For me, a #4 washer was the wrong size.  The diameter was too big to seat in the bottom of the piston hole.   I've read a ton of posts all referring to #4 washers and I don't understand it.  Maybe they changed the piston design slightly (I have an '00 model)?  Maybe the washers I bought were mis-labeled?  Who knows 

I would suggest buying #2 washers (Home Depot / Lowe's have them in the "specialty fasteners" pull-out trays).  They're smaller, so they fit easily where the #4 is too big.  They're also thinner, so you can make finer adjustments by adding/removing a washer.

Some #4 Washers are fatter than others.  The "#4" only refers to the inside diameter.  I have an assortment of #4's that have 2 different ODs (one of which will not work) and widely varying thicknesses.  I highly recommend a micrometer and a wide assortment of washers when doing this mod. 

Cusimano: #4 is a small washer.  Locally, Lowes and Home Depot only go down to #6 in washer size (but have #4 screws and nuts, explain that one).  I ended up getting a 100-count bag from our local Fastenal store.

if you want to use the exact same one as the stock washer, it's 3mm (not #3)washer...yes, a metric size...what a surprise, huh? btw, you won't find a 3mm washer at your local hardware store. i ordered mine online.

Or dig through some electronics junk. you should be able to find a suitable washer in a scrapped CD drive or such. After all, it's the thickness that matters.

I found my #4 washer at lowes... i had to search a lot but it was there

I think it's just specific to the area.  The aisle is pretty well organized according to size.  It didn't have a space. 

It doesn't hurt my feelings.  I have a crapload now.  100 for $1.29. 

Oh, and I just found the bag that I misplaced, so I can send someone washers.  I'd be happy to send 1st class US Mail free.  Pay postage for anything faster.  Just let me know the thickness you want.  I have to warn you that most of them are 0.6-0.8 mm in thickness.  I will make a post in the "for sale" section with exactly what I have sometime later.

Edit:  The thicknesses and quantities are as follows:
0.48-0.61 Many
0.7-0.8 Few
0.8-0.9 Many
0.9-0.98 Few

I will send matching washers.  I'll send up to 4 depending on your needs.  You tell me the total thickness you want, because nobody seems to agree on what is best.

I ended up going to a hobby place (where they have model airplanes, etc, etc). They had loads of tiny washers and whatnot. Took me about 10 seconds to find #4's
