I think as time goes by and we get experience under our belts, we learn to do more multitasking. When I first started riding, it felt as though there were a million things to concentrate on (and there are!), but my ability to SEE (from MSF, see, evaluate, execute, IIRC) has improved greatly. I do look for possible problems whenever I'm making a turn or entering a curve now. I think your story helps all of us remember to do that, so thank you for sharing it!  :thumb:

That's not to say we're always going to avoid the oil slicks and black ice...just that we're more likely to be able to see these things as riding and looking for potential hazards becomes more automatic.

I'm glad your front tire caught again!  :thumb: I hate those pucker moments!  :o

I get blamed for EVERYTHING around here!
:woohoo:

Lesson to learn: When the front starts to go, just hold your line and don't apply or remove power until it catches again. Putting your foot down is BAD at speed. How fast were you going? If it wasn't too fast then putting the foot down isn't too bad, but in general it's a big no-no.

Stay safe, glad you're alright.

Quote from: Wrecent_Wryder on March 30, 2006, 06:24:10 AMI don't know what the lesson is. I could have seen the oil, if i'd been focused on the pavement, but I was focusing on the traffic at the time. Not even sure that was the wrong thing. Maybe I should be able to do both.
I think you learned the lesson...  There's crap in the road that can drop you in a second.  Watch for it, but watch traffic, but watch for people, but watch for dogs, but watch for other obstacles in and around the road, but look through your turn...  Watch everything all the time.  :icon_confused:

If I'm unsure about a turn, I just take it slower than I normally would...  In certain areas I ride the roads are worse than others.  I have a few spots that I can guarantee that something will be in the corner; gravel, oil, pothole, tire, whatever...  Therefore I take it slower around there.  I still wash out a tire from time to time, but none have been bad enough to drop me...  Just bad enough to have a Pucker Factor of 9 or 10.  :o

Ride through what you can and maintain whatever control you might have...  Don't flip out...  And hope you don't eat it. :icon_mrgreen:

I'll work on it.

And BTW, my 2nd Gen SV mirror vibrate less than the stock GS mirrors...  And they look cooler.  Something to think about if you have some spare scratch.

Putting your foot down is a bad idea.  You'll end up transfering weight from your wheels to your foot, and have even less traction, and then you'll definitely go down.

Trust me, I know.  :icon_mrgreen:

That has happened to me, with time you will get used to looking for everything, and by everything i do mean EVERYTHING.  Glad to hear you and your bike are alright.  The only thing bad about riding a bike most of the time for me is that when i drive the cage I feel so bored and get ADD, damn radio

:o Did you go down?

I put it down trying to stop for a yellow light a while back.  Wasn't a big enough deal that I felt like hurting my pride even more by posting about it. Picked up the biked and kept riding.  Case guards work.  :)

Lesson learned: don't stop for yellow lights.

I almost hit a patch of gravel going in to the gas station yesterday it was crazy. It is like it was put there just to F%#@ me up. I never noticed shaZam! like this till i stared riding. In the cage you never worry about a patch of gravel of loose dirt.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof, is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools....

Thanks to advances in automation, Nike shoes will be made by robots. Unfortunately, the robots will be made by children in Malaysia.

There was a sumptruck that overturned near my house trying to round a sharp corner too fast. Spilled its load of sand and a tank of diesel fuel all over the road. I rounded it after it was all cleaned up, but apparently it wasn't. Diesel + sand + noobie rider (I was still on the old '92) = lowside. :(
