with my throttle handle adjustments and my bike decides to rev to redline and stay there....I hit the cutoff switch but not before a big black cloud of smoke belched from the exhaust. Ok not doing that again while the bike is running.

Ive been having probs with getting the idle right on my gs for 6 months and I suddenly realized I changed up my handlebar to a Suburban Machinery 2!!! How do I readjust my throttle so it idles properly?? the tension adjust on the handle doesnt do much should I pull the tank and adjust at the carbs?

Have you had her running again since then? 'Cause that black cloud does not bode well.

If your throttle is tight because of a wider handlebar you need a longer cable.

How did you route your cables? If you didn't route them properly then you can end up with some snagging and sticking.
