got caught in a near biblical rainstorm today - got home and the turn signals on my 89 gs are acting very strange:

left turn - works fine

right turn - the rear  signal lights up but stays solid - no flash, and NO light at the front signal.

the usual ticking from the rectifier / relay is NOT happening with the right turn signal .

relay? wet wires? short?

advice would be helfpul and appreciated.

Yep....my money is on the right front bulb being blown.  Perhaps got water in it somehow?  With the bulb being blown it doesn't complete the cirrcut to cause the flash.

Yep. I think the same your bulb has gone, simply replace and everything will be a ok.

The TSR relies on the resistance of the front and rear bulbs on each side being in circuit to operate correctly. When one bulb blows and goes open circuit this resistance doubles (because the bulbs are in parrallel). As a result of this increased resistance and dependeant on their design some TSRs wont work at all, or some flash the remaining bulb at an increased rate. If the bulb blows and shorts out across the filiment rather than going O/C it can damage the TSR (this has happened to me and was tricky to diagnose as the bulb tested as ok on the multi-meter) but as yours is working ok for the other side this obviously hasnt happened.

Your problem is down to a bad bulb or a poor conection somewhere between the switch, the bulb and holder, and the ground connection.

...AND the winner is:

a bad connection in the headlight wiring cluster - the wire had fallen out of the plug....

Damn, I would have bet the bulb was blown.   Glad you were able to get it sorted.

I have this same problem (kinda). All of my turn signals stopped working a few minutes after I replaced a dead tail lightbulb. I replaced the turn signal relay, and now I get flashing on the right side just fine, but solid light on the left. Do you think it's a blown filiment in my right bulb or a disconnected wire? I did notice a disco'ed wire (Brown) next to my wires that plug into the relay but it's rusty and I can't find where it goes  :dunno_white:

Never mind! I bought a 552 relay and all is good in the world again  ;) I don't know what I'm going to do with the other $8 relay I bought though :/
